Old Eyes need bigger font in chat

October 19 (10 years ago)
I DID look back and search before posting this. I have seen several mentions of it, but no solution.

I see the field rather well and the zoom on it works well for me. But I have to be as close as a foot some times to read the chat window.
I am not asking for a text formatting tool. Font and color are fine the way they are. Players need to be disciplined in how they type and talk. I want to make my whole chat window a larger font so I can read.

There are tons of suggestions in here. Some people seem to be asking the world for their free account. There is so much kewl stuff in here already that allows amazing versatility. But if I cant read what's going on, the polished brass does me little good.

Thank you kindly for your attention and thank you for a wonderful product and service.

Have you tried using your browser's built-in zoom functionality? I'm not sure if it will break the rest of the VTT or not, but it's worth a shot, I suppose.

Mr. Brian
I was about to say "Yes, I have", but I realized what I did was make WINDOWS show me things bigger, not my web viewer. What I did made everything; the window, my task bar, the menu bar bigger. If I use it in just the web browser and then zoom out a little on the play field, that will probably do me some good Thank you for catching that.

All the same, if there were options on how to view the chat window, that would be helpful. I don't think every user needs to set their own font, color and size. That will lead to screaming matches.

Thank you for taking time to think about my problem. I will give that a try now.

You can increase the font size in your browser settings. However, that may produce undesirable results (such as letters running into each other or whatnot).

Depending on how the CSS is set up, I might be able to write you a bookmarklet that makes the chat text larger. I'll take a look tomorrow.

Gauss, thank you for the suggestion, I will look into it. I am using chrome and that can be hit and miss.
The Aaron, I appreciate the effort, this could help not only me but many others, I saw several other mentions of larger text.

And to Brian, I did finally figure out how to make Chrome zoom up the screen. at 150% and by widening the chat window I do get a pretty good view and I still have manageable play space.

The response to this has been speedy and helpful. Thanks each of you.

Now who can write me a mod to make my players show up on time?

There is an extension for chrome called stylish that allows you to create a "custom" css for a site. You can even load user created themes for various sites or customize your own. Very handy and works with roll20.

Thank you Vince. Forgive a freak for not knowing right off what CSS is, but I will look into it. In all truth I still fear I can break a computer just by looking at it.

Control +
Control -
Control 0

Those 3 key combinations will zoom your browser larger, smaller, and back to default zero. Just another fast way to access the 150% function of the browser.

THAT makes this so much easier. Thank you.
And thank you again, Vince. I found a tutorial on CSS. Kewl stuff.

If you're still looking into this, here is a bookmarklet to do it:
javascript:$('#textchat').css('font-size','1.5em');
Just make a bookmark in chrome, but put the above as the URL. When you're on the VTT, select that bookmark and it will change all the text in the chat area to the 1.5em size (which is about 50% larger). When you refresh the page, it will go back to normal.

You can change the 1.5em to whatever size you like. =D

The Aaron>> Thank you, I cannot wait to see how this works. I'll be sure to spread it around and put your name to it. Unless you don't like tons of old geezers like me fawning over you for helping us overcome our decrepitude. =D

That works so perfectly. I don't know how to thank you!

Could there also be a possible bookmarklet to make the chat input text larger? :-)

I have been using the chat output one for a while now...thanks a million by the way!

The problem I am having is when I zoom in far enough to read the text in the chat window, the tokens and labels in the game itself get fuzzy and blurred, regardless of using the in game zoom percentage feature. So just having built in font size functions would still be fantastic for sight purposes.
