In the Settings tab there is a checkbox for enabling the beep. You can disable it that way. However there is no volume control beyond that. If you would like volume control you could post a suggestion in the suggestion forum.

You can mute the chat beep entirely from the settings tab. (There's a checkbox to do so) I don't believe you can alter its volume through any means other than your computer's volume.
