Looking for a 1st Edition or 2nd Edition AD&D Campaign to play

I am new to this site. Looking for GM that has openings.
Any specific reason you want 1E or 2E over 3.5?
Simpler, shorter, more fun, learned with it? There's 4. :)
Yes it is more fun to play. You have to use your imagination more.
Mark I am with you on that..... TSR DnD is much better then WOTC verison.... I would love to get into a a 1e or 2e game .... I truly dislike 3e......

Add munchkinism/class-dipping, ridiculous lists of conditions to know and track, power creep, rules bloat, feats training players to character sheet scan every time they want to do something, rather than use their own imagination and intuition. I could go on an on about it, but it inevitably leads to flame wars and, in my experience, neither side will ever convince the other of the merits of their particular system. Just to be fair about it, I do like how in 3.X everything is roll over and the streamlined way it handles saving throws. The rest, however, I cannot abide.
I'd love to do play AD&D 2E. Basically cause it's the only version I've ever played :)

@ Mark, @ Anthony, @ Boris I am a DM who is looking for 1 or 2 of the right players for my AD&D 2E homebrew campaign. If you think that my description sounds like it might be a fit of what you are looking for, contact me on the side with a private message asking about 2E Homebrew and tell me about yourself and your background with 2nd edition in particular and older-school D&D in general. I'd like to audition you and see how it goes, especially someone who reads this message and can say why they would want to play this and what you can bring to the table to enhance the campaign. I'm really trying to find a certain style of creative players, motivated and engaged Players yet patient and flexible people for this campaign. My 2E campaign, gameplay style is based on some things like Character development, story, and journaling -- I'll try to mention some of these features to give the initial idea. You can filter yourself out if you're a power-gamer, rules lawyer, evil PC, or if you happen to be unavailable at the times I mention, I like to focus on character development (starting your PC off fairly weak but with a lot of potential and a big heart/spirit, and gradually growing your character/personality/powers into something heroic and unforeseen as the game progresses over a few months, so you are not a "build" of something that you plan ahead, but you are a character in the world reacting to what happens to you in the game). Also important is the story & just what happens. Players are encouraged to contribute stories, journals, or drawings (art, illustrations of your character or the events). You get XP for participating in the character development, story, and journals/drawings. You also get XP for defeating or avoiding monsters, and for solving mysteries and traps. We use theater of the mind for much of the combat portions (we do not use grids or squares on the map for combat positions). The maps are made by me. There are world maps, regional maps, bays, rivers, mountain ranges, continents, nations, wars, wilderness, and occasionally buildings and dungeons. Some of the adventures are based on classic AD&D adventure modules, others are my own homemade adventures and locations. Your PC might begin solo, and go solo'ing for a while until you rise up to Level 2 or Level 3 and meet the rest of the party. This is part of your origin story and starting small, but growing into a larger hero later in the game. You will begin near your "place of origin" and journey individually or in pairs towards a town where the party is likely to meet each other for the first time in a few weeks or months. The overall division is roughly 1/3 combat, 1/3 exploration of dungeons & wilderness & and mysteries to uncover, 1/3 roleplaying and character development / character expression. We use Skype for voice. No camera. Game times would be variable and possibly flexible, but mainly focused on Week Days USA times. Example, Monday afternoon, Tuesday Afternoon or Wednesday mid-day USA Central time. Reply to me directly talking about what interests you & your background, mention 2E homebrew, if this seems like your kind of gameplay style.

Thanks for your interest in our group, we have garnered interest from over 75+ potential players in less than one week, which makes us the fastest growing, largest domestic roll20 AD&D playing group than all the other non-text or forum groups combined! I guess 30 years of DM experience, and play tested modules do account for something! So, how do you start? No worries! We've taken great pains to make the initiation process as smooth and streamlined as possible so here goes... FIRST: If you're new to roll20, familiarize yourself with their interface by reading their tutorials and either watching their self help videos, or any of the ones onwww.youtube.com . Just search for roll20. There are too many to list here, just avoid the ones geared toward the DM. Those will just make your eyes glaze over and scare you away. Here are a few links to get you started... <a href="https://wiki.roll20.net/Main_Page" rel="nofollow">https://wiki.roll20.net/Main_Page</a> <a href="https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/920084/new-to-ro" rel="nofollow">https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/920084/new-to-ro</a>... <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-aJLyYUXa0" rel="nofollow">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-aJLyYUXa0</a> <a href="https://wiki.roll20.net/Getting_Started_Players" rel="nofollow">https://wiki.roll20.net/Getting_Started_Players</a> BEGIN... 1. PM the DM for the invite link... 2. Above the chat area are several icons. The one to the left, that looks like balloons, is for the chat area where you can speak (or whisper) to other players and also view die rolls. The icon that looks like a post card is where you find character sheets at the top, and handouts at the bottom...just scroll down to see everything. The icon on the far right, that looks like a gear, is your settings. 3. Your settings. You need to do three things here. First checkmark the "Show macro quick bar". Right after you do that, buttons will appear on the bottom of your screen. The first one you'll be using is the one that says "Attribute-Roll-IV". This is for rolling character stats. We'll talk about that later. The other two things we need to do are to turn off a few things. Scroll down in the settings menu to the "Video + Voice" area. First, click the "I want to Broadcast to others:" drop down and select "Nothing (Disable)". Second, click the "I want to Receive from others:" drop down menu and select "Nothing (Disable" as well, since we will be using Skype instead (see step 8). Be sure to have a functioning microphone and headphones ready to go on game day, otherwise you'll miss everything and then gaming just isn't that fun. 4. Read the 0 START HERE handout (this basically gives you the skinny) 5. Read the DM PLAYER NOTES handout. This is where you can get all the 2nd edition books you need to get the ball rolling. Start by acquiring the revised black cover Player's Handbook (hereafter referred to as PHB), as well as any character class or race handbooks that are of interest to you. 6. Create a character. On page 16 of the PHB, you'll find an easy to read "Step by step character creation guide". Start the character creation process outside of any scheduled group game time. When you're ready to key in your stats, just PM the DM and there will be a character sheet available with your name on it. The room should be open 24/7, so players come and go as they please to work on their character before their scheduled weekly game. If the DM is not there to answer any question, there will more than likely be someone there that can give you a book and page number (since we are literally all on the same page with respect to rule books) or at least point you in the right direction. Worst case scenario, just PM the DM. The "Attribute-Roll-IV" macro button that you turned on earlier (see step 3) rolls twelve 3d6 at a time, so use that as many times as necessary to get 6 good numbers. Take into account race bonuses and penalties. I do allow one mulligan where you can raise one attribute by lowering another by one. No one has to be present to witness the rolls, as the chat window will record all of your activity. The only thing that we ask is that you specify what it is you are rolling for prior to a roll & make note of how you came to your final attribute numbers in the notes area in your character sheet. Start with maximum hit points and gold. Be sure to checkout the optional class handbook "kits" for other skills and abilities (see DM Player Notes handout). 7. Brief yourself on the prior session activities by checking out all of the DM Session Log posts (their title is dated in the YYMMDD format like 141011) in the campaign details area here... <a href="https://app.roll20.net/campaigns/details/535544/du" rel="nofollow">https://app.roll20.net/campaigns/details/535544/du</a>... After you roll up a character I'll work you in. Just let me know when you're ready to key it in and I'll set you up a sheet. 8. Download and install Skype from <a href="http://www.skype.com/en/" rel="nofollow">http://www.skype.com/en/</a> . During game time, we'll ask you for your skype name and call you up! Good luck! See you Saturday at 6PM Central Standard Time! THE Dungeon Master
