Important NPC artwork

Was wondering were and how often other GMs get Importance NPCs some sorta Portrate artwork done

Google Image Search and DeviantArt are my two go to places.  Any character that is intended to be interacted with (as opposed to slaughtered out of hand) will probably have a portrait attached to a journal entry.

I save folders and folder of PC/NPC portraits. Any time I see one I like I copy it down. +1 Dave, I am now going to put pics of monster and NPCs into my campaign journal entries - thanks for the suggestion/idea!

Id like something more specific and original than just a google search...i have actualy had games ruined cause stuck up players reconized some artwork.

What genres do you need art work for?  It's hard to be specific and original when one doesn't know the context... @OldSchoolChris - it's also useful because you can flash the pictures to all the party so they know who they're interacting with.  Then you can also keep track of their interactions in the same journal entry.

Its for a Pathfinder adventer I am makeing. There is a husband and wife and their 2 sons. I have full descriptions If you need em.

I'd still suggest searching on DeviantArt or GIS for strings like "medieval family," "peasant family," "dark ages reenactors" etc.  Searching "medieval family' on DeviantArt, for instance, got several things that would be suitable for me in that situation. Another option would be to use screenshots from suitable video games or preferably the character creator from titles like Neverwinter Nights, the Sims Medieval, things of that nature. Unfortunately, the only way to guarantee that the players haven't seen it before would be to make it yourself - which I know is going to be a pain in the butt, but that's the breaks.

I go to Google and DeviantArt for mine as well. I pepper it with other resource I might have (I scan some of my (far too m any) sourcebooks and artbooks or go to specific sites like lexicanum for my 40K game). I make them characters if it will be a recurring contact. For non-recurrings I use the journal entries as well and treat them more as a hand-out. For an overview of the recurring contacts (because the journal entries can be pretty unorganized) I have made a special start-screen for the players. There all their contacts are sorted in concentric circles (depending on how close their relationship with the NPC is) and the circles are split into different areas depending on what type of NPC it is (criminal, business etc. etc.). Each contact is represented by a token which is a circular cut-out of their portrait.
