Rules Lite GM/Player looking for like minded folks

Hello guys, I'm a newbie Player/GM and I would like to find some friends who want to play random games...the issue is I'm very rules lite and I feel that adhereing too much to the rules takes away from the fun, does anyone else feel that way?
Generally what I do is bend the rules to conform to the situation, or bend the situation to conform to the rules. If you go too rules lite you'll have players take advantage of that and hijack your game. You go to ironclad on the rules and you'll have people buck the system or quit your game. Always a balance.

Yes, I also tend to play Rules Lite. I would say there is a range and variation of what Rules Lite can mean. I understand your meaning though. Note that some game systems are actually made to be & advertised to be "rules lite". For example one I play, Basic Fantasy RPG, says it is rules light in the description . If you want to try gaming in BFRPG --- solo, joining others, or with your existing group --- send me a private message on the side asking about Basic dungeons rules light game. I'll send you the invite to join, and we will play it in January. Another more modern form of games, story games, games like FATE, are also rules light in another perspective. They have a certain amount of rules, but also a wide amount of flexibility and non-constraints where Players are encouraged and able to dream and do almost anything that can be imagined and described in words. Finally, there is the rules lite approach to any game: where the game system itself might actually have lots of heavy rules, but the GM and Players are playing in a style that breezes over some of the written rules and simplifies the gameplay style. This is really a GM style decision, a group play-style. Happy adventuring and good luck in your pitch to find more rules-lite gamers to join you. My tip to find more players is add more information to your post, such as the times/days you want to play, your time zone, and several examples of the titles of Game systems that you want to play (more than just telling 'random games') so that others with matching interests can identify with the offering.
Now that you bring it up FATE is actually an amazing system for the Rules Lite idea. Another though is systems like New World of Darkness where the GM has the final say in how things turn out rather than having to stick to the rules. This is something that is becoming quite popular among all newer RPG systems, you just need to keep in mind continuity.

Just dropping my two cents in. If you want rules lite D&Dish games then most retro clones are the way to go. Fate and other systems are good modern systems. Now on to the meat of the post. Are you looking for a text game or voice /w or /w out cam? What timezone are you? What day or time are you able to play? You can find various games in the looking for group listing (see blue banner above). I know of a group about text based games of wide variety of systems: https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/18465/knights-o... I'm going to toot my own horn here for my text based game: https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/18956/forgotten... It is a shared world campaign with 3 (2 active) GM's. It uses the Basic Fantasy rpg system.
Well I'm for text or Voice since I want people to try and get into the rpg, I love seeing people act their characters when we play. I'm on Central time and the time that I can play are slightly erratic since I work but I'll know a lot better after this week. And I've never heard of BFRPG sounds pretty interesting and I have Fate and FATE AE and it's pretty good, I've heard some good things about Savage Worlds and the like. Right now I'm just trying to find people to play something, Maybe a battle arena style fight game...
Well with that sort of thing in mind you'd want to choose the setting/theme of said battle arena. NWoD works very well for those style of games and is set in a modern theme (though can be adapted for any realworld timeline). Pathfinder is a good fantasy setting and rules system (Though Rules Lite BFRPG might work just as well). FATE could actually be used as it has some very interesting combat mechanics centered around using your imagination and can be used in any setting.
I think I'll work on a FATE based rpg and see how it goes.
I'm definitely of similar tastes. I've played and run Savage Worlds for a long time and have recently moved over to Fate and the accelerated edition. Would be glad to discuss the various setting out there for Fate or creating a unique world. Depending upon time and frequency I may be able to join in if you get a game planned out.
I like rules light games, simply because it's easier to just start playing. I like pickup games and demos, and it's tough to do that with a 500 page rulebook. Also, a lot of games seem to have trouble translating to online play, and rules light games seem to have the best success rate. That being said, I prefer to play to the rules of a game (however detailed they are). After years of house rules and made up but undocumented systems, I see the rules of a game as a shared contract between all the players. If I know the rules of a game, I know what I can and cannot expect to accomplish. Ignoring or changing the rules just seems to take options away from the players and prevent them from understanding what is happening. With that, I'd be interested in joining and running (as a rotating GM) for a fairly adhoc group and trying some different rules light games.
Another interesting rules light system to come up is from a new dark fantasy RPG called Within the Ring of Fire. It is a new take on the fantasy genre as a whole. Taking influences from many real world folklore, fairy tales, mythologies, etc - melded together to really make an interesting, provocative setting that, in my opinion, does a fantasy role playing game right. If you're into theater of the mind, cinematic and immersive play feel free to check it out! Here are some live game sessions. The new saga has just begun, I highly recommend it! New episodes are ran on saturdays. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKlEeei4LbSaWcRm0...
