Journal character drag and drop does not behave as expected

When i go to the journal and drag one character, say a Kobold, and drop it on the map, it's abilities are not there. That is because in the properties of the token, the "represents character" is empty. I need to set it each time i drop a character on the map, even a Pc. Since i'm using characters for template npcs with all their stats filed up, I find it repetitive to drop a kobold and then associate it to be a kobold. Is there an option somewhere or is there something I am missing ?

You have to make sure you setup your token first, with Represents Character, before making the Default Token in the Journal/Character Sheet.

BTW if the token is going to represent a mook(an npc/monster that is not unique), make sure to choose "none" on Bars 1,2,3, after you get your stats from the associated sheet, otherwise when you copy/paste multiple tokens to the map, the character sheet and all the copied tokens are still linked. Damage to one is going to be damage to all. Read the wiki for much better explanation :-) Linking Tokens to Journals
Thank you for your answer. Honestly, There is one thing that bug me though. Why isn't the token dragged from the character in the journal automatically linked ? Because I don't see any use for a character that is not linked with abilities and character sheets. If you don't want your token to be linked, you get it from the library, not from the journal. And I won't recreate everything for the pleasure of it (like most user won't). In short, I think that whatever the means you took to create the character form the journal, when you drag it to create the token, It should always be linked to the character in the journal. If there are cases when it should not be the case, enlighten me please. Anyway, a simple checkbox in the character like "When dragged, character token always represent journal entry" should be present. Would be more friendly and intuitive than following character creation guideline. As a developper, I can say that 90-95% of user never reads documentation, so an interface must have intuitive options and never ask user to recreate their stuff. My templates (Mook) have character sheets and abilities. They only don't share hp, but share everything else. That's my opinion, but I really like the system and I can live with this bug . ;-)

If you link the token to a sheet and save, dragging a sheet's token to the map will still be linked. If you don't link the token (i.e., represents , set bar attributes, default token, etc. ) then you just get a token image. I think that perhaps you aren't linking token to a specific sheet...?

Mathieu , it is not a bug. You need to properly set up the token before setting it as the default token. When you set a token as the default token it is saved in that state. Vince linked the wiki on how to set up the token prior to setting it as the default token. On the other hand, if you are using just the character's avatar image as a token, that is not designed to act as anything other than the most basic function, a token that has the same control as the character sheet. In this case I suggest you set up the default token.

I think he's asking for the ability to use the avatar picture as a very very basic default token, one that is set to represent the character in the journal. Mathieu , the problem is this: The game has no idea how you want to link bars to attributes, or anything else really, and can not make any assumptions and remain game-agnostic. Thus you would *still* have to set up the token and at that point picking the character it represents is just one more item on the checklist.
Ok. I figured out what I was doing wrong. I set the "represents character" field value from the token after defining the default token in the character journal. By removing the default token and replacing it after the value as been set, it finally works as expected. Normally I create the character completely (avatar, token and character sheet). Now I know that i must do some back and forth operation for it to work completely. Wrong Steps : - Putting the image from library to map to create a token. - Creating the character and assigning the default token. (*) Right steps (for mook/template): - Creating the character in the journal. - Putting the image from library to map to create a token. - Editing the token : set the field "represents character". - Editing character to define default token. But it is not a bug, just that everybody that will proceed with the wrong order will have that problem and that could be resolved easily. (*) When you set the default token of a character in the journal, that token field "represents character" should be set automatically IMO. That would be more straightforward and resolve the problem. Creating mook is straightforward with that way. And since you create more of these than actual characters, I think it could be worth doing something about it. Anyway, thank you everybody ! :-)

Is there a list of pre created NPC's that we can use in order to speed things up? I have searched for pre made NPC's and cannot find a link to any so I assume they do not exist. However, I thought that about something else I was looking for and could not find it in a search but just happened upon it in a forum. (This is the reason I ask) BTW - I have suggested this in the suggestion forum

There are not, and probably won't be from Roll20 because of it's System-Agnostic design. However, there has been discussion of setting such up using some API scripts. I have an interest in doing that at some point, probably after the new year.
I don't think there is or could easily be. Since it is system agnostic, it would have to get a search by system. Since tokens can be purchased, npc could have token unavailable to you. Since the character sheet could be different, only the Npc using the same character sheet from you could be. There are however whole module that can be bought. Those include tokens and npcs I guess. And your post is completely off-topic, by the way and should be moved elsewhere. This post could be closed as the issue was resolved.
