I know that the roll20 engine renders everything at once, so this may not be easy, but I am also incredibly impressed by the level of interaction presented by Desperate Gods , an online boardgame (that's free, you can check it out in that link) that promotes direct interaction with game elements and no mechanical enforcement of rules, like roll20. The major trait of Desperate Gods that makes it stand out is the real-time display of all other player's cursors, movement of game elements, and so on. It's so much easier to have empathetic interactions when you can see how others are pointing out game elements and so on. The current ping mechanic is clunky and slow, to the point where I'm describing things with coordinates and directions instead of pointing them out. tl;dr: I believe that roll20 would benefit greatly in any style of game by letting users see each other's cursors, token movement, and other interactions in real time. Try out Desperate Gods .
