A suggestion: Rights to use artwork issues.

There are a lot of artists that I cannot find contact details for. It would be a lot easier if we had their contact details or if artists agreed that their work could be used in adventures to be sold before they uploaded their work.
This is a problem because dundjinni has shut down and they allowed people to use their assets for commercial purposes. The only other alternative is campaign cartographer, which is graphically terrible.

There are some Roll20 terms of use that may apply.

I know this already.

The basic marketplace agreement doesn't allow for resale or redistribution of any products you'd need to contact any artists to get appropriate permissions.

That is the problem. You can not find it. I just did a random search in the marketplace and clicked on the artist's name like you would do here in the forums. All it did was treat the name as a search filter. There was no profile or anyway to contact the artist.

Sounds like a nice suggestion, but if you're going to be looking to make money using someone else's work, it sounds like you're going to have to put in the work to track down the authors and get their approval. I'm new here, but I'd hate to see roll20 get bogged down in asset licensing for 3'rd party assets and working less on roll20 itself. Also, you might want to make it an "official" suggestion and post in the suggestion forum if you can. Might get some more traction there if people really want this.

Roll20 probably would not get involved in that aspect but having a method of contact would be a good move forward. Having that would put any contractal obligation between the artist and the person. It would similar to devaintart providing a method of contact to the artist.

Ah I see I missed the point. Thanks! I'd assumed you could look up an artists profile from the marketplace.

A lot of the artists browse here or have a profile where you can PM them. Not ideal and not trying to dissuade you from making it an official suggestion, but it may be possible that would let you contact the artists you want to hire/license/whatnot. If it is to create a specific module for Roll20 why not consider posting up some ideas of what you're after in terms of artwork, a rough price range, and having artists apply? You may stumble across someone who fits the bill?

I agree it would be important to offer a method for people to contact the artist, at least via PM on Roll20, at least if the artist "checkmarks" that they want this. For related example on the Community Character Sheets of Roll20, some of the character sheets have a Contact person listed, some don't. If this becomes a Suggestion I'd be a supporter of this.

I'm generally available for hire, if it's any consolation. Here's two examples of my work: https://marketplace.roll20.net/browse/set/263/gene... and https://marketplace.roll20.net/browse/set/313/gene...

A content creator does not have to be a member of Roll20. So you are kind of ultimately dependent on the content creator providing contact information in the pack. The right to use is still covered once it s on the market. Now, I have seen work commissioned at a discount because the artist could then sell it on Roll20.

Maybe this could be handled on the wiki with creators who wish to give contact information able to post it there?

This post is in response to the OP and in response to some of the discussion. If a member is wishing to get in contact with an artist that has not made his contact info public, you will need to email Team@roll20.net some information. Your Contact info, the Artist's name, and a brief statement why you want to contact the Artist. The devs will take that email and pass the information along to the Artist then it will be up to the Artist to get in contact with the member.
