[Interest Check] Aberrant, (a dark Superheroes Campaign) Thursdays - Time TBD

[Let me know what you think! Even if you're interested but don't want to play, let me know why so I have some feedback to work with. Thanks!] I'm thinking of throwing together an Aberrant game. Think of it as a dark, gritty hybrid of X-Men and Watchmen, where players will play superhuman evolutions called homo novae, or New Humans. Popularly known as Novas. The system, and my GM'ing therein, allows for extremely detailed, extremely customizable powers, in pretty much any sort of superhero vein you can think of. Players would create unique heros with highly tailored powers to suit your play style and concept. The game would have pretty much the same rules as the original 1999 release of the game, but with NWOD standards (attributes, skills, willpower system) grafted on top of it. (Because let's face it, OWOD skills were wonky at best.) Anyway, I'm just curious to see if anyone would actually want to play this, before I start getting too heavily invested in it. Thanks in advance for your feedback. Please feel free to respond openly, constructive criticism is welcome, and I urge the mods to let people speak openly on this thread, unless they get too trolly. :-p

You mentioned that it's like a hybrid of X-men and Watchmen, can you elaborate a little bit? Might be interested.
How are you determining the time?

I've had a character running around the back of my head ever since I first read the Aberrant rulebooks ~15 years ago, so I'm cautiously interested. Things it would be good to know: Voice-based or text-based? If voice-based what client? When in the Nova timeline does the campaign start? I'm cautiously interested because I suspect you won't be playing at a time of day I'm available (I'm not free until 2am eastern time, tuesday through friday mornings), but were such a miracle to occur, I have a Mega-Stamina 5 Nova ready and willing to suit up :>
I'm interested depending on time, played aberrant a bit back in the day, still have an aberrant concept I want to try

"You mentioned that it's like a hybrid of X-men and Watchmen, can you elaborate a little bit?" The concept is you play what is basically a new evolution of humans called Novas, or homo novae, which are a bit like mutants, with similar plot devices as well. But I want to keep the dark and gritty and moral complexity of Watchmen at the heart of the game, even though our players will be "heroes" "How are you determining the time?" Right now we are leaning heavily toward starting between 2-5pm CST (-6 GMT/UCT) and running until somewhere between 6-11pm. We will narrow that further based on player availability. "Voice-based or text-based?" Voice based, absolutely. We almost always use Skype, though based on game and player need, I'm also open to Google Hangouts and Teamspeak (but I'm almost positive it will be Skype.) "When in the Nova timeline does the campaign start?" I haven't nailed down a story and setting just yet. Could be anywhere from 1990 to 2030 - but probably closer to modern time. And while I have not worked on the story just yet as this is the early stages of forming this game, knowing me I can almost guarantee deviation from canon. I find sticking to canon basically assures you'll have a lot of omniscient metagaming and annoying conversations like "That's not what Russia is like in 1999" - So I almost invariably create my own unique universe to intensify the mystery of the setting and put that kind of nonsense to bed early. :-p "but were such a miracle to occur, I have a Mega-Stamina 5 Nova ready and willing to suit up" I don't know what the latest you can play is so I don't know exactly if this will all fit you, but I would love to have a new Mega-Stamina 5 Nova. I'm pretty sure we already have a controller, a blaster, and an infiltrator, so I would very much welcome a tanky character or a scrapper right now. (To anyone who has not played Aberrant before, there are not classes, these are referring to generalized super team roles.)
it doesnt sound like the timeslot is going to work for me, I work 12-8 cst tuesday to saturday, but it does sound fun. The Canon setting has a ton of silly stuff in it, so varying from canon is fine with me, too =)
Sounds awesome, although I know nothing about the system or setting. I also probably won't fit your time frame. I just wanted to give feedback.
Very interested. Love the setting. Count me in. PS Hi John
Hmmm i'm definitely interested, but 4 hour long sessions at the time given means i may not be able to commit. Not familiar with the system, but I can look into it. Have you used it before? It's always nice to hear about mechanics from someone familiar with them and how they work in actual play.
I'm familiar with the game and could actually be available during the timeframes, but it being voice-based kills it for me.

That's at the start of my day instead of the end of my day, and I could potentially make a 2p-6p (-6 GMT/UCT) window work, any week day Monday through Thursday. If you have room for me plus one, that moves my window down to being available for a game starting at 5 and running until 9 Mon-Thur, (-6 GMT/UCT) -- provided the spouse is interested. I'll check his interest level later today if you say there's room :>
Those of you who wouldn't be able to make it, thank you for your feedback regardless. I wish you well. :-) @Sef: I have played the game before, a long time ago, never GM'ed it. It is built like OWOD but I am going to tweak it a bit to use the (I think) superior attributes and skills systems of NWOD. It is a ton of fun and it's best feature is the EXTREME versatility of character development. You can have virtually any power set you can dream of. However, also because of the extreme versatility, I do have to supervise character construction, lol. @Megan: I'm sorry to hear that, but yeah we're only really interested in voice chat games. I'm not sure I would enjoy playing by text. But thank you for your feedback! @GenKitty & @Scraigon: Do you have a Skype screen name I could contact you at for a brief interview? Please post it here or PM it to me and I'll try and get a hold of you - I do work 3pm-11pm CST tonight but if you're able to speak earlier, that could be possible. Happy Holidays everybody!

I am certainly up for this. I have played Aberrant before, it's a very rich world (as white wolf usually is).
Excellent, we're either full right now or just about full, but I will be putting together a small waiting list in case the time we choose doesn't work out for any of our current players or anything else pops up.
Aberrant! Love the setting, never had the chance to play. Message me if you still have an opening.
