Twitch-TV Overlays

Not sure where to ask this question so we will do it here and if there is an issue I am sure a moderator will place it in the correct spot. To start of I am gone through Youtube and general netsearchs (my Google-Fu is usually strong) but could not find information about how to make a custom overlay for use with Roll20. Has anyone done this? I would love some constructive suggestions on where I can find additional information to do this.

What I did was ask someone on Twitch directly, someone who had a nice overlay. They actually responded and emailed me a Photoshop template. I didn't end up using their template, it was extremely basic (it was a "bluescreen" solid color, with transparency for the windows where you want other graphics like your Roll20 sections to appear, the idea was you could easily put stone or wood or whatever logos or backgrounds over the solid blue part using a graphics program that supports transparency and exporting in a format that supports transparency namely PNG), but it demonstrated the concept for me. So now I could make my own in Photoshop / GIMP. Start in your graphics program by making the 'solid parts' and leaving the transparent windows. Then color up the solid parts however you want it to look, parchment, iron, borders, bolts, logos..

My understanding of it is that you make the overlay in another program (like Photoshop) and then use whichever streaming program (xSplit / OBS) to put it on top of your Roll20 window.

Hello Rpgman2013. I found a few threads you might be interested in viewing. <a href="https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/1390765/video-ch" rel="nofollow">https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/1390765/video-ch</a>... is about people using and/ or creating custom overlays on twitchtv. <a href="https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/1174957/hide-ui#" rel="nofollow">https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/1174957/hide-ui#</a>... is really interesting to read. It started as how to hide the UI but moved into customizing the overlay. Our everloving script writing demon the Aaron even cobbled together a bookmarklet and posted it in that thread. Take a look there if you are interested. <a href="https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/1366231/alternate-roll20-layouts-or-even-bespoke-layouts#post-1372824" rel="nofollow">https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/1366231/alternate-roll20-layouts-or-even-bespoke-layouts#post-1372824</a> is a suggestion thread about alternative layout for roll20. Take a look and see if that is something you want to add a vote on or comment to or even both.

You are certainly correct! Use image creation software to create overlays. Make literal transparent "holes" in the image where you want to see the cams and Roll20 Screen. Then insert the media file into OBS or Xsplit, use the screen capture function in either program to capture the areas of your monitor that you want to display and layer accordingly.
