Superhero RPG

Has anyone had success using some sort of superhero system other than Mutants & Masterminds? I didn't like the system too much.
Well, you have the Hero system, and I'm somewhat partial to the old Marvel Superheroes RPG (FASERIP) system. There's also Aberrant from White Wolf. What are you looking for?
I plan on running a Worlds in Peril (Dungeon World system) game once I get my hard copy. I've done Heroes Unlimited from palladium & Marvel Universe RPG. Currently playing Marvel Heroic; its ok.
Oh wow I didn't realize there were that many options available. As for what I'm looking for, I'm looking for an easy to use system that allows for lots of customization options. M&M felt too tedious, and character creation was pretty complicated.
The old TSR marvel game would fit that description and the downloads are free. http://classicmarvelforever.com/cms/
Oh there are plenty of superhero games :) DC heroes, DC d6, DC Universe (M&M) Marvel TSR, Marvel Universe, Marvel Heroic, Marvel Saga Heroes Unlimited Aberrant Mutants & Masterminds editions Champions/Hero system Villains & Vigilantes Lots of independent ones floating around as well

To add to Teddy's list, many "generic" games have super hero supplements or have rules already build it. Savage Worlds and OpenD6 both have a super powers book, and I'm positive there are super hero books for GURPS and other such games who's names evade me at the moment. I too didn't care for Mutants and Masterminds, and would like to try other games.

ICONs is a super hero system and the first edition is ogc (form of ogl).
Marvel Universe RPG allows for a lot of variety when it comes to characters. Also pretty easy to use. I enjoy playing it a lot.

Use this Better Angels is a tabletop roleplaying game where you play a supervillain who got superpowers from being possessed by a demon and you play the demon who’s possessing the supervillain of another player to your right. As a Villain you have freedom to do as you please through that may not always be what the demon wants, so they will tempt that supervillain with more power in exchange for greater and greater acts of evil. But If you’re too evil, your demon can drag you screaming right to hell itself, be to nice and the demon will find a way to punish you their own way. In between the superpowers and demons are a range of opinions to improve yourself mechanically and roleplaying wise Through it isn’t just a game about bad people doing things that may or may not also be bad. It’s specifically about people driven by demons, or by conscious malevolent forces with cruel designs that have weird powers. If that’s not demonic enough for you, it should be. Walking that balance, between good and evil and power and fear, is the heart of Better Angels. The system uses d10s for there rolls with Virtuous and Sinister Tactics and Strategies points that determine success and failure at challenging tasks http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product/114269/Bette...
Supers! Revised Edition BASH Ultimate Edition (Aaron has kindly written me a script to emulate the dice rolling mechanic for this) Bulletproof Blues I've read Supers! and BASH and rate them both. I got Bulletproof Blues for Christmas, the little bit I've read looks decent.

Isembard said: Bulletproof Blues The older version of bulletproof blues is on the ICONS link I provided above.
If you thought M&M was too complicated, Icons might work for you.

The way ICONs was explained to me is that it is a blend of Marvels FASRIP and Fate. That is oversimplified but it gives you a good idea. You can also convert most marvel classic stuff to ICONS with little to no work.
I strenuously disliked faserip but liked the look of Icons, haven't had an opportunity to play it

I like how ICONS reads also but haven't had the chance to play it either. I'm working on a Marvel's Agents of Shield campaign but have not decided on the system either. I'm looking at 2 systems at the moment, Savage Worlds and Icons.
I always like FASERIP. It wasn't a perfect system, but I don't think you'll find such a thing where superheroes are concerned. I'd have liked Aberrant better if it didn't have the "slippery slope" game mechanic that White Wolf was unfortunately so fond of. M&M seems balanced as far as power levels, but it suffers from a point system that allows too easily for cheese.

I've easily and successfully ran GURPS Supers, Marvel Heroes FASERIP and ICONS. These days I tend to favor converting Marvel Heroes to the Icons system.

Man, I already have a little too much on my plate at the moment, but I'll be damned if I'm not also interested in trying to find a superhero game again. I used to play City of Heroes off and on for years back when I was really into MMOs, and the superhero genre will always hold a special place in my heart. I had a brush with M&M 2E a few years ago, back before I really got into tabletop RPGs in earnest, but sadly never got beyond building a couple characters who were fun on paper, but then never actually getting to play the game because the plans fell through. I guess it's time to see if I can find something on Roll20 that fits into my schedule.
I played FASERIP for years but, now, I prefer Marvel Heroic or Smallville (both iterations of Cortex+) depending on the flavor of game I want to run.
I really like the Cortex system, it's a great blend of diversity, balance, and simplicity. It is a under used system.
+1 for GURPS here. I Ran a (admittedly short-lived, 4 session) supers campaign a few years back with a few friends and had a lot of fun doing it. As with any game where the players are very powerful it can be a little more taxing on the GM to properly "challenge" the players, but my particular gang did a great job of rolling so terribly in many key situations that the they seemed to make the easy challenges make up for the tougher ones they managed to breeze through. That game helped me redefine how I planned/prepped for games a lot lol. Either way, whatever system you decide on, Supers are always fun. Happy gaming!
Guys, this is so much more than I hoped for. Thank you so much! I'll be checking these systems out.
