Elder Scrolls RP and more! Simple & Rules Light Homebrew System, New Players Welcome, (Fridays @ 7:30-11:30 CST Weekly)

Edited 1420598347
NEW PLAYERS ARE WELCOME! We are looking for a few players to join our weekly gaming group. We use Google Hangouts and sometimes incorporate Roll20 (depending on the game). We are currently a group of 3 and are hoping to find one or two more people to game with us. Sessions are recorded and will be uploaded to YouTube, so mics are necessary and cams are optional. Our new and improved YouTube channel (which launches soon) is called The Saints Roost. The idea is that our page is a virtual tavern that exists within the realm of RP and the games we play are stories told by weary adventurers passing through :). We are looking to build a community of players who are like minded and care about the characters, stories, and worlds that we create. The system that we are currently using is a mix of Fate Accelerated and a Homebrew that is incredibly simple and is far more focused on the story than rules and stats. We try to run games that are immersive will lots of opportunity for role-playing. We play Role-Playing games not Roll-Playing games lol :). Let us know here if you are interested. We are probably going to be having a "test the waters" session in which we run a game set in the Elder Scrolls timeline that connects to our main game but that acts as a stand alone. This way anyone interested can join in and see if our games are for you before there is any kind of commitment. This session will most likely take place Friday the 16th, or 9th if enough interest is shown by then.
Thus far here is a list of games that we are running: 1. An Elder Scrolls RP (ran by the smartest man I know lol) set in the 200 years between the events of the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. 2. A Post Apocalyptic RP (ran by myself) that we call "The Tower". It is inspired by an Apocalypse World RP ran by Rich Rogers on Youtube as well as the game The Last of Us. It is a "sandbox" style game meaning that it's driven mainly by character actions and is meant to be a big world for you to play in lol. It's based mostly within a society of people that have created a "town" or "city" in the remains of an old, abandoned hotel and the surrounding area. 3. There are more games in the work at the moment and we are open to ideas and cooperation from new players in regards to what type of games they would be interested in playing. Two of the ideas that we have so far are either a Pokémon rpg or one based on the rpg called Monsterhearts that is about being a Supernatural creature (such as vampire, ghost, ect.) and trying to survive in normal society and the hell that is high school. I'd like to mention that we play these games in "sagas" or "seasons" if you will. We focus on one game at a time and play until certain story arcs have concluded or good stopping points present themselves, or if things simply come to a halt for whatever reason. This way we don't get burnt out on one game in particular and there is more of a variety to what we would be playing :). Also, all three of us are in our 20's, but are open to playing with older and younger gamers alike as long as maturity levels and such things are understood. We aim to have fun first and foremost, but our games are important to us so we honestly just want people that are willing to take the stories seriously, play their characters as though they were "real" people, and enjoy telling stories with like minded individuals.
You list no dates on which these sessions will be hosted, does the elder scrolls rp take place on a tuesday? thursday? So its hard to show interest in something in which no specific days are listed.

Understandable lol, I've been there plenty of times myself! That's unfortunate to hear but I appreciate the Interest :).
Damn I wish I could!!!!!!! I'm being deployed soon so I couldn't commit :(
No worries! I wish you luck :).
I am still most definitely interested. Here is my character description again, for reference: Name: Linvala Axina (Linny to friends) Race: Bosmer Gender: Female Age: 26 Concept: Linny is a talented archer, tracker, and scout, but has often found herself in trouble for being too hyperactive and impulsive. She doesn't always think before she acts, and this has landed her in more than one situation that almost killed her. She is friendly to everyone she meets, but can rarely stay in one place for any length of time, and so has few real friends, as she tends to wear out most normal people that try to keep up with her energy. She has short, fiery red hair, two silver nose rings on the outer left nostril, and sports a light tan. The only time she feels comfortable enough to slow down and relax is when she is alone with nature. --I may edit as I get familiar with the system you are using.-- She should end up looking a bit like this, only more cheerful: http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2013/287/c/7/autumn_ranger_by_sirtiefling-d6qi02k.jpg

I would love to join up in the Elderscrolls RP, a big fan of the games but I am a bit new to the system, hopefully you can help out with the minutia. Don't truly want to commit much to something I may have a chance to be put into but I love to throw out the idea of a breton mage or warrior, depending on if spells and 'magics' are very rule intensive id like not to slow down too much as I try to understand how stuff works, and I assume warriors are simpler than most playable characters. If anything good luck on the whole Saints Roost account and community you are trying to build and hopefully I will join it later on if not now! Character idea: Name: Gaius Kyrath Race: Imperial Gender: Male Age: 23 Concept: A spell-sword and a man devoted to the nine. Mostly a man of good service and a practitioner of his virtues, with work almost similarly to that of a mercenary. He bears a hatred of daedra and lacks any empathy towards them, he will bring them down without hesitation. His wide expanse across Tamriel, mostly of goodwill and service of his Emperor, has taught him the many threats of this land and has no qualms in purging them, yet he always is long-full for nights rest and good food. If you do not threat Gaius, then you will get along fine. He is a tall man usually clad in armor, but has brown hair and a dark and rough complexion with heavy amber eyes and usually sports a grin in public.
I'd be interested, not familiar with Fate Accelerated, but can definitely read and wrap my head around a new system. A little about myself, I'm 26 and male, and like to think of myself as being mature. I work full time, but this happens to fit almost perfectly into my schedule (occasionally work Saturday mornings, but game ends only 30 minutes after I usually turn in anyway). I've only really been playing 5e, but am interested in expanding my RPG experience, and have loved the Elder Scrolls universe since I started playing Morrowind in my teens.
Awesome! Thanks so much for the interest :). Don't worry about the system too much, it's very (VERY) simple and is mostly focused on role playing, fast/realistic action, and immersion. Really it's a complete home-brew that is focused around a trust between the GM and players, but incorporates a few things from FATE to fill in the blanks. We'll have a "meet & greet" session sometime before the game to go over specifics, but literally you can learn the system in about 2 minutes lol. It's designed to basically be "rule-less", but the main components of it are as follows: 1. GM to Player/Player to GM/Player to Player communication and trust. 2. Creating and playing characters that feel as though they are "real" to the world you are playing in and immerse yourself into that world. 3.Working together to tell awesome stories through our games. 4. MOST IMPORTANTLY! Have Fun :D. The one thing that I do want to point out is that we play "Role Playing Games" not "Roll Playing Games" lol, by this point it should be clear but our focus is on our characters and the story that is unfolding through their actions rather than worrying about rules/math/stats/mechanics; we aren't dungeon crawling, power gaming murder hobos lol, and not that there is anything wrong with that type of gaming (to each his/her own), but if that is the kind of experience that you are searching for we probably won't be able to provide that. However, if you're looking for a group that's friendly, loves this hobby, loves gaming with new people, and is interested in crafting these awesome stories, worlds, and characters together while having one hell of a time then you'll probably fit right in XD. I hope this answers some the questions that you guys might have and if you have any more feel free to ask. Also, if you guys have character ideas in mind feel free to post them here in the same format that Ryan did above. Thanks! (P.S. @Robert M, unfortuneately we already have a Breton mage in the party lol, not to say that there can't be two but just wanted to let you know.)

@ Spencer S: I do not actually know how to use Google Hangouts. Would you consider skyping with me until I figure it out? embreer@gmail.com If it is as simple as you just contacting me while I'm online, the email address I'm logged into at the moment is jodahavatar@gmail.com .
Hey man, I'm super interested in this and I can certainly play. I don't have google hangouts but I'm willing to learn how to use it if it means I can play!
Name: Alammus Othrelas Race: Dunmer Gender: Male Age: 43 Concept: Alammus was always a curious Dunmer, orphaned from birth. He was taken in and raised by his newfound Redguard parents Nachael and Husson. Being raised away from his natural dunmer society changed him dramatically, instead of learning magic or mastering stealth he learned the art of the scimitar and warfare. Displaying a surprising amount of martial skill from a young age got Alammus introduced into the Order of the Scarab, he quickly raised through the ranks and was appointed captain by the age of 23, the youngest in the past 60 years. As quickly as his promising career seemed to come, it disappeared just as quickly, following the assassination of Lord Sorink of Totambu Alammus was forced to run into exile as the assassination happened on his watch. For much of the next 20 years he roamed Tamriel working with various mercenary and bandit groups, as well as more lawful organizations such as the Fighter's Guild of Cyrodil earning himself a modest income and was able to purchase a small estate in Firsthold on the Summerset Isles, but was forced to abandon his home because of the initial stirring of the Aldmari Dominion. Alammus is now a vagabond warrior, homeless, and wandering the world looking for his purpose again.
Hey guys, I am currently watching the Tower, and I was under the impression that the Elder Scrolls game was the current game. What has happened to that?
Hey everyone! I'm excited to see all of this interest in our group :-). Thanks so much for that. I'll be able t.o talk more about this with each of you tomorrow so bare with me for tonight becau se I'm exhausted lol! @Spencer, we have an awesome first name huh lol? @Ryan, we had to fill time so this week we ran our other game but no worries, next week it's back to the good ole Elder Scrolls :-). What did you think about what you saw brother?. @Christopher, I love the character! He'd make a great addition to the team. I can't wait to learn more about him. If you guys have any questions or anything just let me know and I'll be back on for most of tomorrow to answer them and discuss everything. In the meantime if you guys want to get a clearer idea of the kind of game that you can expect here's the link to our latest video: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FWZPjksmLlk Just so you guys know there isn't any combat in this particular session, and it's not Elder Scrolls, but it is a good representation of the kind of games that we like to run :-). Thanks again and I'll talk to you all tomorrow.
Where'd everybody go lol?

Name: Divayth Arano Race: Dunmer Gender: Male Age: 79 Concept: A wannabe battlemage, excommunicated from the Tribunal Temple in Mournhold for malpractice involving several wounded soldiers. With his days of healing behind him, he has instead turned to perfecting his swordsmanship as well as his ability in the fine art of Destruction magick, neither of which are currently impressive. He is not possessed of the usual Dunmer arrogance, but rather prefers to spend his time learning of other cultures and people when he is not embarrassing himself in a sparring ring.
@Spencer, are your and Christopher ' s characters related?
Nope! That was a freakish coincidence! Editing now.
That's crazy lol! That would've been hilarious if you guys were like distant cousins or something, but what are odds of you too choosing the same family name?
I probably saw it days ago and when I thought of a Dunmeri name it was subliminally suggested to me. So not that freakish.
By the way Spenc, what time is it where you are right this moment? I might have doublebooked this with another game but if I might be able to do both.
It's noon right now.
It's 2:00 PM here, so it isn't looking good... but I'll try to do some math here...
Damn. Really sorry, I wish I could do this but I can't. You should contact me if you do anything else in the future, you seem to have some pretty interesting ideas.
Well I appreciate the Interest anyways! I understand man and I will, however almost everything that we do is going to be in this time slot. Take care man and throw some dice for me :-).
Fo sho, mate. Keep rollin', rollin', rollin'.
And I'm still here, just had a really busy day yesterday having to work overtime. So just send over a PM and we'll see if we this'll work. Just heading outside in a few to take the kid sledding, so I may not respond asap.
Okay, something that all of you guys need to know about the story is that the session will begin in Winterhold, so figure out why your character would be there, and also that the city is under attack by a group of slavers calling themselves the Black Serpents, that are searching for Mages to capture and take with them.
Linny will be there traveling to the College with her Altmer foster brother, Sorin, who is looking to join the College (is this set before or after the Great Collapse shown in the Skyrim game?). Sorin shows a lot of potential, but has had very little training, as yet.
@ Ryan, the game takes place 5 years after the events of Oblivion.

@ Spencer S.: Ok, awesome. And I just finished another run through Oblivion, so I am relatively fresh on the events of the game. :) Are we playing as though the Oblivion Crisis events were solely based on the main quest? Or are you having all major quest lines having been completed, either by just one character, or by multiple NPCs that used to be PC-type characters? In other words, a Nord Paladin completed the Knights of the Nine and the main quest line, while a Bosmer rogue did the events of the Thieves Guild quest line, a Dunmer Morag Tong became the new Listener, a Breton spellsword become new head of the Mage's Guild, an Orc Knight became the new head of the Fighter's Guild, and a Khajiit barbarian fought her way to Grand Champion of the Arena, for example? Also, by the way, did you ever talk to the GM about the eye thing I wanted for my character? If not, would you, please? As I said before, it is purely cosmetic, and she doesn't have control over it. It's just there to make her more unusual. And one last thing, if it is alright. I would like to have her be related to the Adoring Fan of the Arena quest line. Just as a small tie-in to the game. :P
Yeah I talked to him about the eye thing and he didn't have a problem with it as long as there was a reason for it lol. Now as far as Oblivion goes, the "PC" completed the events of all 3 of the main quest lines, but the rest was completed by other heroes and adventurers in the land :).
I am curious. If I were to try to create an image of my character within the Oblivion game, would there be any restrictions for the outfit that I use for her? Would it be safe to assume that things such as latex suits or chain bikinis are somewhat not lore friendly?
Yeah things like outfits and weapons don't have to be 100% canon, but don't go crazy with it haha! Just curious, why use Oblivion and not Skyrim?
Mostly because i want to use a particular outfit mod that is available for Oblivion and not for Skyrim. Though, i might use Skyrim instead if i can find an armor mod for it that i both like and feel is canon-ish.
OK so there's a potential that we might have to start later this week....it would be 9 at the earliest...will that still work for you guys?
That is 10:00 for me, which is less than desirable on my end. What is causing all these changes to the originally stated normal schedule?
It would be a one time thing, and it's because the GM got asked to work some overtime and he might say yes. I'd honestly rather reschedule than start that late but I wanted input from you guys.

I don't suppose that he is able to run the game, just this once, on Saturday rather than Friday, at the 7:30 time? Also, I did some fiddling on Skyrim and came up with a halfway decent character screenshot. Let me know what you think. Here is my character description again, for reference, with some additions and edits: Name: Linvala Axina (Linny to friends) Race: Bosmer Gender: Female Age: 26 Concept: Linny is a talented archer, tracker, and scout, but has often found herself in trouble for being too hyperactive and impulsive. She doesn't always think before she acts, and this has landed her in more than one situation that almost killed her. She is friendly to everyone she meets, but can rarely stay in one place for any length of time, and so has few real friends, as she tends to wear out most normal people that try to keep up with her energy. She has short, fiery red hair and sports a light tan. The only time she feels comfortable enough to slow down and relax is when she is alone with nature. Linny wields her father's sword. which is decorative and gaudy, and only of about average quality as an actual weapon. She also has a reversible cloak, dark on on the outside and white on the inside, that she wears like a poncho, complete with a reversible hood and arm slits. Lastly, she carrys her mother's re-curved longbow, with which she is highly skilled. Linny's adoptive Altmer brother Sorin has traveled to the College of Winterhold because he recently discovered his magical talent, and wishes to develop it, but is too timid to attempt the rigorous application process required by the Cyrodiil Arcane University. He has heard that the College of Winterhold is much more accessible, and believes he has a shot at acceptance. Linny herself has a good deal of Skaal blood in her, from multiple branches of her family tree, which gives her a very high tolerance for cold weather, even though her Bosmer blood dominates her physical features. Linny was a playfully troublesome child growing up. She had a natural gift for stealth and lockpicking, and often used it to break into the homes of others for the sole purpose of rearranging their things in odd or silly ways, on many occasions while the owners were in the next room. She only got better as she grew up. At the age of 17, she infiltrated a heavily manned military fort near Bruma just to etch crude and rude pictures on the commander's dress armor, and escaped undetected. She has mellowed a bit since then, but is still highly energetic, and something of a prankster. She does love her adopted brother, and thus has elected to travel with him to the College and see him safely there. --I may edit as I get familiar with the system you are using.--
Sorry brother, I work Saturdays all day. If not this Friday then we'll just push it back one final week....hopefully it won't come to that but I'll let you know asap!
Actually, we could still do the meet & greet part, and get us newbies familiar with your system. I'm good up to your 10:30-ish, and I'd like to be able to dive right into the game when we start next time. So let's do a short session this week, so we can dive right into the heart of the game next time. Also, I'd like to know if there is anything potentially problematic with my character's description above, such as the skald blood and cold tolerance, or being stealthy enough to sneak into Cloud Ruler Temple. Also, is the outfit I'm using lore-friendly enough?
I won't know my work schedule for Saturday until probably Friday. However if I do have to work I'd only be able to play for 2 1/2 hours max, so a sorry meet and greet works if that's what everyone decides.

I am incredibly interested in this game. I am a huge fan of roleplaying and of the Elder Scrolls series. I am 18 years old and in college. Your time shouldn't conflict with anything of mine as of right now. Name: Braum Carnesier Race: Nord Gender: Male Age: 28 Concept: A brute of a man. Growing up, Braum had a fascination with battle. Day in and day out he spent his time training and building up his body. He is a very kind man at heart, but he would always seek out fights with anyone and everyone he met as to test himself and see what he is capable of. As he is currently able to throw down any and every opponent he can find, he seeks to go out on an adventure searching for worthy enemies and to test his might against the world itself. That was just a very brief concept, it isn't a backstory or anything of the sort. If you would like me to add more detail, or come up with a backstory, I would be more than happy to do so. I am about to make a new game on skyrim and get some screenshots of a character like Ryan did, that should be up on here shortly. Thanks for reading this and I hope you'll consider me.
@ Chris S: Did you base that concept on Son Goku? :P
Wasn't even thinking about that, but i see the similarities lol.
I'd be interested in the Elder Scrolls game. I will say though that I don't know anything about the Fate Accelerated system so if I do get accepted I'd likely need some help with how to do it. The same with Google Hangouts, I've never even heard of it before so that might also take some getting used to, haha. Character: Sodril Varen Race: Dunmer (I've noticed that Dunmer seems to be popular, haha.) Gender: Male Age: 87 Concept: Born to an Altmer father and a Dunmer mother Sodril has a great natural grasp of magic. While he learned magic from both of them his father was the primary teacher. His mother however was a member of the Thieves Guild before being married to Sodril's father and taught him those skills. Many of Sodril's rarer tomes came from her, when asked where they came from the answer was typically 'Donated, It was a steal, and I found them on the back of a wagon.'. Due to his father he's rather tall for a Dunmer and slightly paler, other than that he still has the typical Dunmer traits (Grey skin, red eyes and black sclera.). His hair is black and in a long pony-tail, mostly because it got in the way when reading, notching an arrow, and picking locks when the Open Lock spell fails. Unfortunately I'm going to miss the timeframe for the 16th, I have to work 3-9pm EST. I do know that I have Saturday off, but I don't know my schedule for next week 'til I go to work on Friday. I apologize about that, I'd really like to give this a try.
