Eternal Vigilance Guild VTRPG portal now recruiting, Multiple Campaigns LF Players

Looking for a roleplaying group to call home? Look no further than Eternal Vigilance, a premier multigaming guild with a portal dedicated to RPG gaming over the internet. About the Virtual Table RPG Portal Overview The Virtual Table RPG portal of EV was founded in November 2011 by Ardis Foxx and Viv. We created the portal as a platform from which we can create and run RPG games online with our friends and guild members, and to use our experience to train new DM's, creating new opportunities to expand our list of campaigns and our player roster. We are mainly focused on the D&D 4th Edition ruleset, but we also play other systems. We use the virtual table at http://roll20.net/ to host these games online. Goals The motivating factor of the portal is to ensure the best play experience possible for an internet-based tabletop RPG. We seek to hold a high standard of excellence in creating, maintaining and running campaigns. Our goal is also to propagate- using a mentoring system we help new DM's every step of the way along their journey to becoming confident and successful DM's in their own right. For a detailed look at how we achieve this, please read the VT RPG Portal Charter. http://www.evcitadel.com/community/threads/official-vt-rpg-charter.27135/ Why Join? Our portal offers more than any single gaming group can. We have a dedicated center of leadership, experienced Dungeon Masters, and expertly crafted campaigns. We are driven to make the game a success, and to elevate each member to a place where they can run their own campaign if they so choose. If you need advice on how to play or DM a game, we have the knowledge base to make it great. No matter what game we’re playing, Eternal Vigilance has always been dedicated to maintaining a friendly, mature, active community; We’re a home away from home. We’re as dedicated to our games as we are to our community, and we believe that if things are built on a solid foundation, they have every chance to exceed expectation. Although we realize that nothing is ever perfect, we know that the ability to change and evolve is important, which is why we are a democratic guild. Everyone has a voice that will be heard. These are the values we bring to tabletop gaming. If you're interested in joining or you just want to take a closer look, visit our website at http://www.evcitadel.com/community/categories/virtual-table-rpg-portal.168/. Hey All Just popping in to say 'Hi' :) I'm Seihava, Recruitment Officer for the VTRPG Division for Eternal Vigilance. If you have any questions about who we are and what we do, please feel free to send me a PM. Sei VTRPG Recruitment Officer
We have 4 active campaign groups currently, and we continue to run regular event based games and one shots. We're training 3 new DM's who are just getting started with their campaigns and will be looking for more players to fill their groups. We currently host games in New Zealand, America and UK time zones. The campaign I'm running at the moment is called "In the Dragon's Shadow", and our next game session is this Saturday. The group is full but feel free to check out the campaign homepage at http://www.epicwords.com/in_the_dragons_shadow for a taste of all the hard work and polish we put into our campaigns.
Howdy! Happy to be in Eternal Vigilance, and happy to be in two campaigns which have been going on for quite a while now. Definitely have good DM's and fun players to play with.
This charter of yours makes it seem as if you don't even use the roll20.net application.
This charter of yours makes it seem as if you don't even use the roll20.net application. We've only just cut over to Roll20 this week Mark, and updates to our documentation are ongoing. I've updated all our advertisements and I wrote this one we're posting in just yesterday, so give me a little time :) We were previously using the Wizards VT, which recently been given the kick by WotC and is being taken over by the developing company GTO, so we've had to look for another table. But it's been a blessing in disguise, as we're all in LOVE with Roll20 and can't wait to run games with it. Thanks for your feedback, I'll hopefully get to updating our charter today!
Charter has been updated.
Zark here, XO for the VT RPG Portal. I run one campaign, Mists of Dread and Terror (4th ed. Ravenloft), and one short adventure, Shards of Selune (4th ed. Neverwinter). We're definitively fawning over Roll20.net after a few days of frantic search for a new VT platform. Things are really hoping here on the forums, and hope to see some of you in a game session soon.
Marechal here. I am a member of EV for the past few months now. I have to say it is a great group of gamers who have fun and work hard to prep their games. We would love to have new players to join our games and create new games.
If I may ask, what sort of non-d20 based games does your community run / enjoy?
Hi @Balladeer, We have a lot of d20 fans in the VTRPG portal, but there is some interest in other systems. Currently one of our DM's is organising a Lovecraft campaign using Roll20 which I understand is very different from the d20 style of play. Personally I love d20, but I'm always willing to try other systems out if there is the desire for it and it fits in with my schedule. Our members are of a similar mind, and are often up for anything. :) We also have a Play by Post forum area for those who want to take matters into their own hands, with whatever system they create for their campaign.
For those who are wondering, they only play 4e.
For those who are wondering, they only play 4e. Hmm, not sure where you're sourcing this info @Snapzilla, I personally am a fan of 4e due to the DDI content, but the systems we play are entirely based on the desires of players and DM's who organise the games. Let me quote Wayne's World when I say, "If you book it... they will come..."
Just looking from your site. thanks. only looking at campaigns.
Good as gold I understand. Saying that we *only* play 4e is misleading however; three of our currently running campaigns are using that system, but as a group we like many different settings and systems, and certainly don't have any rules regarding what portal members are allowed to play. It's entirely up to the DM who posts initially asking if anyone is interested in running a particular game. Looking forward to 5e!
@Snapzilla, what are your favourite game systems pal? Are you a pathfinder fan? Are you excited for D&D Next to go live? Seems to be mostly 3.5 and 4e fans on this forum from what I see. Two of my favourite systems! :D
If I may ask, what sort of non-d20 based games does your community run / enjoy? Also, there has been talk of running one of the Whitewolf systems on the forums. Our resident person with the most experience/books however has had some real life stuff going on and has not been able move forward with that. Plenty of folks eagerly awaiting when he or another is able to run a Whitewolf campaign though.
D&D is definitely the most popular RPG on this site, though that's true of most any general-use RPG site. Personally, I've had fun with D&D (and still play it now and then), but have been spending time with other systems for the last few years. Currently, Fiasco and Dungeon World are probably my favorites, though I have at least a dozen others that I have either not played enough of or never had the chance to play. Oddly enough, despite owning a bit of NWOD (mostly Werewolf), I've never actually participated in a White Wolf game. Though if you haven't seen the fan-game Genius: The Transgression, I recommend at least giving it a read.

Was an AD&D and 2nd ed. man for many years with some Whitewolf thrown in. Only in past couple years that I've given in to moving on to 4th ed D&D. I still occasionally humbug at the overpower of PCs these days and miss the time when a failed save against death put them in their place! ^_^ Story is huge for me in both playing in and running a campaign, so I just can't see the interest learning and playing so many rules systems. A full-time job doesn't help the matter any. :) While I'm here, I remembered to mention that what can be seen from the outside of our group is sorta like an iceberg. We have portal only areas and our campaigns make use of epicwords pages to store a lot of their campaign information. Ardis practically has a full wiki going for his http://www.epicwords.com/in_the_dragons_shadow I'm trying to catch-up in getting the level of detail that is in my brain on my own epicwords page. :D
Story is huge for me in both playing in and running a campaign, so I just can't see the interest learning and playing so many rules systems. A full-time job doesn't help the matter any. :) I totally understand the desire to stick with what you know :) My job's actually sent me off to China for several months, so I had to put my main 3.5 game on hold after more than a year without a serious break. :( That being said, my desire for more story or character oriented games is what drove me away from D&D initially. I didn't like how complex and combat focused 3.5 and 4e were, and eventually got weary of the mechanical focus on gaining personal power. Not that such a focus is bad, by any means. I just wanted to see what other games focused on :) There are many, many systems out there that you could learn in an hour or two, systems that don't have dozens of splat books and hundreds or thousands of pages of rules to learn. Heck, Risus comes in at a grand total of 6 pages :P That wiki you linked (In the Dragon's Shadow) is probably the most impressive use of epicwords I've seen; so....good job with that, Ardis :) Anyway, you can find me on the Eternal Vigilance forums under the same name.
Want to DM? If your curiosity is piqued about being a Campaign Administrator (aka DM/GM), but you've always been a bit hesitant to try it out, VT RPG is a perfect training ground to try your hand at crafting and running a fun RPG campaign. THE MENTOR SYSTEM Simply send a PM to the Portal Commander expressing your interest in becoming a DM and he will assign a Campaign Administrator to you as a mentor, to guide you through the process of game preparation, running a session, and wrapping up. Each CA is different, and there are many different ways of managing these three stages of building and running a game. Your mentor will work with you to help establish your own DM style, by providing advice, examples on good ways to manage and run a game, answering questions, or even attending your game as a spectator or Co-DM. It's up to you to decide how much help you need, but feel free to ask your mentor anything! CAMPAIGN GROUP: SHORT ADVENTURE ARCS The Short Adventure Arcs campaign group is a dedicated platform for running brief adventures, that are usually between 1 and 3 sessions long. Each adventure arc or delve is a separate entity, and new characters are rolled at the outset of each arc. The group has a permanent roster of 2 players to form a solid but small player group, and the remaining 3 slots are up for grabs at the start of each new delve or adventure. This format is designed to allow a variety of players to enjoy less "commitment heavy" D&D games with the portal while still allowing this group to continue with scheduled sessions if the temp slots are not filled. The Short Adventure Arcs campaign group is a perfect starting place for your career as a DM. The players know each other well, and the adventures are short and sweet. Ask the Portal Commander if you would like to DM a Short Adventure Arcs game.
Hello, looks like there's some interest in non-D&D systems which is just what I'd like to run. Currently trying to get a Call of Cthulhu one shot going and then possibly a campaign in that or a different system depending on how interested people are in CoC after the one shot.
I'd probably be interested in CoC depending on the day/time. I enjoyed playing the last one you ran in person, even if Tony's character sewed my toes to my chest and locked me in a cage for days, lol. I'll never forget that. Those kind of memories are unique to tabletop RPG's, where imagination is king, and are a huge part of the reason I love them so much, and a huge part of the reason I co-founded the VT RPG portal in Eternal Vigilance. And I must say, with the great work Ardis and Zark and all the DMs have been doing, I'm very happy that we've created the kind of community which allows the true spirit of tabletop gaming to flourish :) Love you guys, and look forward to meeting any new friends!
Looking forward to next session too :) The developments in this campaign are epic!
I have one, very important question. Do any of you run GURPS?
We don't have any GURPS games running at the moment, but as for whether we have fans of that system in the guild, it would be better to ask the guild :) Not all of us monitor this thread, just us admin-ey types who seek to spread the good word and recruit :) Come introduce yourself and ask about it Mark! http://www.evcitadel.com/community/forums/forum-introductions-public.20/
I've posted a guide on my own style of doing prep and running games as DM. Check it out :) https://docs.google.com/document/d/15Js5tukXtc-5gDK1b8fFTF9tI6bhfZN5wQEJkJjYEmU/edit
No GURPS already running? That's a bit off, for a large gaming guild.
Our guild, while large, is a multigaming community- the VT RPG portal (we have 5 other gaming portals) consists of no more than 22 members. I was quite comfortable with our numbers for a time, but I've decided to expand the roster recently and have made a drive to recruit, which has been quite successful so far- much of which I owe to the fantastic Roll20 community, thanks guys :) I founded VT RPG only in November of last year, so the portal is still young. I have managed our growth carefully, as it's very important to me that we don't have players who can't find a game, or DM's that have a head full of campaign ideas and not enough players to fill the time slot. The two points above would account for our size, as for the lack of GURPS- many of our players came into the portal fresh faced, having either never played PnP RPG's or with only a little bit of experience. I personally am a bit of a D&D purist- story is paramount to my campaigns and the D&D system hasn't ever let me down, so I've stuck with it. Do you favour playing or DMing, Mark?
I favour playing. I wouldn't say I've enough experience with tabletop games to be GMing yet. I mean sure if was able to GM I'd probably join up and grab a few people interested and host a GURPS game, but I am not. I think I'll go about applying for your "core member" thing anyway, though. Checked it out, and you've got some good people.
Worth noting, Mark, that you don't need to become a core member to play in the VTRPG portal or even in our other portals if those were of interest to you. We do always welcome folks that enjoy our community enough to become core members, but it can be a lengthy process and would not want anyone new to be put off by it. For VTRPG portal membership you are simply required to play in one game under one of our Campaign Administrators (CA). Basically a trial play together for both yourself and us to test the personality waters.
Indeed, you can become a member of any of our 6 portals by going through each portal's application process. VT RPG have very easy and nonrestrictive requirements for our applicants. Becoming a core member means that you're part of the larger EV community, and you can henceforth join any portal without going through an application- you just choose to be a member of that portal. We love our community, and yes we have some really great people in it :)
You can find a tidy list of Games Seeking Players at the following section of our forums. http://www.evcitadel.com/community/forums/games-seeking-players.303/ Currently, there is Vampire: The Masquerade, 4th ed. Nentir Vale, 4th ed. Ravenloft, and Call of Cthulhu 6th ed. as rule-sets/settings being offered.
Let me highlight another great thread that started not long ago at VT RPG; the Session Highlight Reel. This thread is used to highlight particularly awesome session recaps that just pop with narrative goodness. This recap is from session 1.9 of In the Dragon's Shadow, a western/oriental style campaign in the Forgotten Realms setting. The recap begins with Dravish Jirow's character Shafire being appointed as the new Oyabun- the leader of the Black Dragon Yakuza- by his father, the previous Oyabun. The session was directed in a Guy Richie fashion, with many things happening at once and it all came crashing together in the end. It was total, beautiful chaos and we all had a terrific time! Enjoy! Shafire, Eladrin, Newly Appointed Oyabun of the Yakuza - Played by Dravish Stondylus, Wandering Swordmage - Played by Ardis Mar, Harper Agent, Sorcerer and Rogue - Played by Viv Narrows, Tiefling Assassin - Played by Seihava Akamu, Information Broker and Double-Dealing Spy - Played by Zark Vylir, Ex-Shadowmaster Thief - Played by Ste'vahn ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The elderly Saito Kayushi looked upon his adopted son with kindness and pride, and in a brief ceremony at his bedside he adorned Shafire with the Pendant of the Black Dragon- a simple neck chain holding a small shard of an ancient sword known as the Golden Blade. Shafire had barely been Oyabun for a more than a moment before an explosion rocked Saito's chambers and knocked Shafire and Stondylus off their feet. As they collected themselves, ears ringing, they saw a shadowy figure snatch the old man from his bed and flee through a hole in the wall created by the explosion. Shafire and Stondylus wobbled on their feet towards the opening and once free of the effects of the blast they set off at a run, chasing the dark assailant. Hearing the disturbance from a few blocks away, Mar and Narrows ran towards the yakuza head quarters to assist their friends. Meanwhile in another part of town not far away, Vylir had been on edge, sensing something amiss. There was a high pitched whistling on the wind that no one seemed to notice except him, and it made Vylir sweat as it touched on something primal in his subconscious. The whistling became a howl as the source of it grew closer, and suddenly he saw it. Atop her proud and majestic dire wolf companion, his ex-fiancee Lady Jacinda Esmaren slid around the corner and barelled straight towards Vylir. The massive wolf had a finely brushed coat of fur that shone in the sunlight, and beneath it rippling steel cords of muscle and sinew carried the beast across the ground with the speed of a pure bred mustang. Vylir felt his heart stop briefly, before pure adrenalin shocked his legs into flight. The wolf sniffed the air as it closed on the target of its hunt, and Jacinda beamed upon spotting Vylir as he tried a futile attempt at escape. The girl laughed manically, "There you are my darling love! You'll not get away from me this time!" Without even pausing in mid stride, the wolf collected Vylir in it's jaws. Teeth the size of daggers closed around his collar and carried him down the street, away from an amused Akamu who decided that some adventures are best left alone. With his friends entangled in their own engagements, the information broker decided it would be a good idea to visit one of his contacts down at the docks to learn if any unusual shipments had come in. His lead had gone cold after learning about the Shadowmaster's plot to take control of Phsant by utilizing a weaponized metal-destroying mist and employing ironwood weapons. Either Brygold was more clever than Akamu initially believed, or the informant had been misinformed. The smell of brine, fish and foreign spices filled Akamu's nostrils as he reached the docks. After talking his way past the dock master he offered a few gold pieces to his contact, and learned that a large shipment of brutish, well armed goliath-genasi mercenaries had come in by boat a few days ago, but no other strange deliveries or currency exchanges had happened. On the other side of town, Mar and Narrows accompanied Stondylus and Shafire, hot on the tail of the hooded assailant. Mar spotted a telltale tentacle flailing from the creature's face and determined that he was a mind flayer- a powerful creature of the Underdark, given to complex schemes of domination over other creatures through manipulation, slavery and psychic enthrallment. Suddenly Vylir and the direwolf careened around the corner and slammed into the mind flayer, causing a mess of limbs and bodies scattering across the dusty path. The illithid quickly rose to his feet and blasted his attackers with psionic power, rooting them to the spot with concussive force. He used the opportunity to flee the scene, leaping up to a nearby rooftop and turning to run. Suddenly he was in the air as Arleson the Harper ambushed him in a surprise addition to the fight, body tackling the creature from behind and carrying him 8 meters to the ground. Without skipping a beat Arleson unleashed his Katon: Witchfire technique at point-blank range. A last second telekinetic shield saved the mind flayer from being reduced to cinders, but it was impossible to block it all. To be continued...
This guild seems like a good idea to me. I've been wanting to run a 3.5e Dragonfall Wars campaign for a while now and recently came to Roll20 to do it. Problem is, I can't figure out the software for editing. Does your guild offer help for that? If so, I'd be willing to GM Exalted games, 3.5 games, and possibly playtest a system I'm developing when it gets done.
for those interested I shall be making a Star Wars RPG with the help of the VT group, it will be open for all members of VT interested and anyone that is thinking of joining, VT members will have priority spots, if you do happen to get interested, let me know and I'll fill you in when its ready. Also any map makers or people who have Star Wars Grid Maps, star wars only, please let me know.
Seems like a great idea.

Helping each other to learn new systems, become better players and DMs, or making great use of VT software is what we're all about Robert. I am *very* particular about having a high degree of polish in my games; my recaps, web pages, wikis, docs and VT games -including maps, tokens, voices and music- have to be perfect, and it's my goal to teach other DMs how to create high quality content for their own games.
Ben knows all about what happens when the music isn't perfect lol.
We've got 2 long running D&D 4e campaigns on the go, regular one-shots, and other campaigns just starting including the systems of 2e Ravenloft, 6e CoC and Saga SWRPG. The new campaigns have slots open, and the DM's are keen for players. Come get some!
please note: right now I'm still learning the rules of pretty much ALL of the saga SWRPG, so it'll be sometime before I can start my game, as well learning the DM parts of R20, trying to make maps, tokens, and a story. so please be very patient if you want the SWRPG.
Hi Eternal Vigilance, I'm a seasoned player and DM with several years of experience on VTRPG platforms using 3.0, 3.5, 4, and PF rules. Over the years, I've been jumping from group to group looking for consistent play, but it's hard, if not impossible to find. If your guild is still accepting new players/DMs into its ranks, then I would love to learn how I can become involved. Please let me know. Thank you, Brett
I wouldn't mind joining a pathfinder game, but I'd need any and all necessary pdfs for it...
Are there any class, race, kit or alignment restrictions?

I have 3.0/5 pathfinder and 4e pdf's. Im looking for any style of game and can accommodate a character for whatever.

Star Wars Saga ed. campaign kicking off tonight. Looks like it will be 10pm EST on Friday nights, still a couple of slots open for folks interested.
Currently have 2 players for a Call of Cthulhu 1 shot on Monday August 13th at 8:00PM EDT. Could use up to 3 more players for those interested.
