Squares with different scales

Gauss helped me with this several months ago, but i forgot exactly what he told me to do. basically the default grid i use is 5 foot squares for minis. some of the maps i am using have 10 and even 20 foot squares. how do i align the grid to the map, then use the page settings to add additional grid lines inside the map squares?
If I understand what you are looking to do correctly, you can change settings of the page in the page settings . Under "scale" (#2 on that wiki page), you can change how bit a "unit" is. For instance, if you want 1 square to be 10 feet, change that to 10. Under "Grid" (#4 on that wiki page) you can change the number of units as well.

What I believe he wants is to keep his own grid at 5' squares, but have those lines align with the 10' and 20' grids already drawn on the pre-made map images he'd like to use.
Gauss showed me a way to set the grid to 10 or 20 feet, then align the map. after that, change the grid back to 5 feet and the map's grid would still be aligned, but the roll20 grid would have additional squares inside the map's grid. when i tried to do that today, there was no change. i think i missed a step, but dont know what it was.

Ah, that makes sense now! Please excuse me for not understanding. Jasen, did Gauss by any chance use the "align to grid" (right click on your map image and look under "Advanced") function function to set the map up so the squares align? You can then change the number of "units" under "Grid" in the Page Settings. For instance, setting it to ".5" instead of 1 adds extra squares for me. If you also change the size of the "units" under "Scale" to, say, 10 ft. that should make each "half square" drawn by Roll20 to be 5 ft if you use the ruler tool. Is that closer to what you wanted or am I still off base?
i wrote to Gauss, and he said to change the grid to "2" (for a 10 foot square, i assume 4 for 20 foot grid) then align the map normally. afterwards, change the grid back to 1, and the map should add in the extra squares. so yes, basically what you said
Gauss is the map master. I'm not surprised he said it more succinctly than I did. :) Glad you got the results you wanted!
