In many folktales of Faerûn there is mention of a City
of Adventurers, where every citizen is a mighty and famous delver,
monster-slayer, explorer, or smiter of foes, from the bread bakers to
the roofers, the dung-sweepers to the high judges. The very cobbles of
the streets are gold, they say; handfuls of gems serve as small change,
and the humblest houses crammed with valuables of gleaming beauty and
glowing enchantment. Folktales are like that. Most cities are grubby,
crowded, dangerous places, where coins are hard won and easily lost, and
few folk are mighty or famous. Reality is like that. Reality in Faerûn,
however, does hold a City of Adventurers. A young and vigorous city,
where magic does dazzle and wealth is heaped in plenty for some. Danger
lurks there, too, never far from the elbow of the visitor. A stranger
here will share crowded streets with more than the usual share of
adventurers, eyes sharp and alert, swords swinging ready, and deadly
spells just a mutter and gesture away. It's a city of watchful black
ravens; a port often raided of old by orcs and hobgoblins and worse,
that still lurk not so far away in the frowning mountains; a place where
pirates walk the streets in the thinnest of disguises. A city of the
bold and the grasping, of the youthful and daring. Home of the reckless
and the wild-spirited, where a dragon lies atop heaps of gold in the
city coffers, and so much magic crackles and sparkles in the very stones
underfoot that disenchanters are drawn to it from around the world.
A real place, not a folktale. A place called Ravens Bluff,
where adventurers are at home and wonders almost commonplace. A place
where Faerûnian elves that crave excitement are looking over even now. A
place that is truly alive. For the record my favorite color is orange and black.
I'm looking for a group of 7 or 8 players, so that on any given
night we will have 6. If all seven or eight show up, that's fine too. 8 is our absolute maximum.
This will be a Pathfinder game set in Forgotten Realms.
So source material from Forgotten Realms might be allowed with DM
Approval.
All Players start at level 1. All players make their own characters. There are existing characters that are level 3 or 4. How does this affect you? I plan adventures not knowing which person or persons can show up this night. I hope for everyone, but that's been about 22% so far, between illnesses, job moving etc. So I plan out encounters based on party levels. If 6-12 party levels are here this night, then we meet skeletons, and if it is 13-18 party levels then we meet zombies, and if it is 19+ we might meet a wight instead. So you being level 1 does not hold you back, and how fast you move up, has to do with how often you participate, how many adventures you make. You just have to use a little smarts. The level 1 paladin might not want to charge the hill giant, especially when the rest of the party says stay back.
Stats - You have 84 points to spread out amongst the 6
stats. Not the normal point buy system. A 18 costs 18, a 10 costs 10
etc. You may not have any stat lower than a 6.
Classes allowed - All Core and Base classes from the Pathfinder SRD.
Races Allowed - All Core and some Forgotten Realms with DM Approval.
Alignment - Non evil.
Money - Max starting. Bonus Starting Equipment - 1 potion of healing, and either a +1 melee weapon, or a +1 large steel
shield, or a +1 ring of protection.
You may not be a citizen of Raven's Bluff to start your character.
Play times - Thursdays, but due to my work schedule
will vary from week to week. One Thursday will be 1830 and the other week will be 1730 EDT. We will have to skip a
week occasionally due to my job. On the 1830 start time week, I work until 1800, if traffic sucks or something, well give me a few minutes if needed. If you see the others on, a few are long time friends, ask them, if for some reason something comes up (I work for an emergency management agency) one of them will know. Sessions are planned for 4 hours, but we seem to run a little over usually.
Voice Chat - That's how I'll be doing most of the conversations in the game. Skype!
I'm new to DM'ing here, but not new to DMing, so you will
have to bear with me as I figure it all out. Ok not that new, we now have 14 sessions in, but some things are new, like last week was the first session where dynamic lighting was used.
I will not necessarily take the first people that come
along. I will take the people that seem the best fit, and can enjoy a
campaign that will continue for some time.
I am usually available for questions during the week, and can help with meta knowledge or whatever else you need. The first 14 adventures are complete. 1-12 had to do with meeting important personages of the city, and learning things about the city. Each adventure has a summary posted in our area. 13 started the first real "plot" however it is not a week to week thing, we will get back to the next chapter in that story soon, although players might not even know it for a few weeks. 14 was building upon some information from 1 through 12. Adventure 15 will be a one off due to a few people being away this week. The group is presently looking for a paladin and a wizard, to fill out or last 2 potential spots. I will not take the first person that posts they want to join (well not necessarily, my point is don't hit post, or send a PM because you think it will get you in the game quicker. Here are the questions you want to answer in a PM or post. 1. Can you make the listed times, most of the weeks? 2. What character are you interested in playing? 3. What is that characters back story? 4. What is your gaming experience, Pathfinder and as a whole? 5. Having you ever been a city adventurer before? 6. We use Forgotten Realms, are you familiar? How familiar? 7. What do you hope to get out of this game? and the DM? 8. What is my favorite color? 9. Are you a good role-player? We're not looking for someone to sit in the back and roll dice. 10. How old are you? 11. What are the goals of your character? 12. How will your character try to mesh with the already established characters? I
can tell you that the more you communicate to me, the more I understand
your character, the more likely you are to join the game. Questions
about the campaign etc. will show me a willingness to want to join. Another deciding factor will be how your character will fit in with the already established group. Questions are ALWAYS welcome.
