Looking for D&D Beginners Group

I'm really interested in learning how to play D&D. I have a little experience with tabletops (a few runs of Call of Cthulhu and one Pathfinder run), but I have yet to play D&D. I'm looking for games that start after 4:00 pm cst and end before 8:00 pm cst, but not on Tuesdays cause that's when I have basketball games. I'm wanting to learn because I have friends that play D&D in real life who are quite adept. My goal is to be able to play with them eventually.
Hey, don't worry about not knowing, just play the game. You didn't learn basketball by sitting down. Just go, play and listen. And also, borrow the players handbook. Most games you will find have house rules, far different than the original or even hybrids of that system and another. If you have a ready group, just ask. Don't worry about dying, you can make another character, then you can find which class you like the best.
I know its not the right time, but found out I have free time on monday and am thinking of doing a shot one sometime in the morning of afternoon (MST)
the problem with that is that is really rather just start from the basics instead of jumping right into the game. plus I only have two friends I the group and the other four I know nothing about so id like to feel comfortable before I just start playing with them. Also, @meldebious I have free time on Monday too cause there's no school so I'd love to play.
boost
Me and NathanC are kind of in the same boat. We played around with the character sheets, but we kind of want to play around a little to understand what's going on. I wouldn't mind getting together and figuring things out, maybe finding someone more experienced to guide us through.
Hey, I might be willing to run you guys through a one shot, as I am looking to jump into 5e like you all (as a new DM).
if you are willing to DM i would like to join as a noob too, we can try to figure things out together. Im in Central Timezone, feel free to PM me.
I haven't played in four years, so i'll join too if you are willing. I have handbooks for 3.5e and 4e but i'm sure i could be able to make a 5e character if we want to play 5e.
@YayYoh that sounds great actually, can you pm me the details? and the others as well?
What sort of details are you wanting?
Time and date
Hey all, I am working on when I can fully commit (going out of town next weekend for 2 weeks). Regardless, I will, however, be running 5e games (whether a campaign or series of one shots) in the very near future. I do have a few questions: How familiar is everyone with 5e? Do you all have character sheets created or would we need to step through the process? If so, do you have access to a PHB for character creation? If not, I could provide pre generated character sheets for a one shot/mechanics run through/demo. Just trying to gauge if we would be able to jump right in (everyone is familiar with character creation/has a character sheet) or if that would be a required preliminary step. Thanks in advance!
I'm familiar enough with D&D i should be able to make a 5e character fairly easily. It took a little to get back into the flow of it (and by that i mean i made a 4e character). Character sheets are easily found on the D&D website luckily. I believe they come in a fillable pdf format, so you just have to fill in the blanks.
Well... I made a 4e character sheet for a campaign where the DM never showed up, but other than that I don't have a lot of experience with it. I've been able to find online versions of the phb, the dm guide, and the monster manual, but only for 4e. You would probably have to walk me through it, sorry.
