1st time DM dnd3.5

Im wanting to try out a simple module for 3.5dnd. i cant quite get all the stupid maps and things that i want on the desk top. its easy enough to get all the tokens. is there anyone willing to use their imaginations as i narrate whats in the room? all experimental.
Need help getting the maps working or just want to go "old school" and not use maps?
i cant get anything to work reasonably easy. making maps sucks. importing them nothing lines up. i played the original dnd with no maps. dont see why i cant now. i was gunna run a premade and just cant figure out how to get them maps in
Line up? Are these maps with lines you are trying to line up to the grid?
more in the since i cant get the maps big enough. they all end up so small even after i size them. also the maps i have are for the dm. they have all the secret doors and traps. so that wont wk either. i tried to edit them out. just such a pain.
Gotcha, once good drawing tools are implemented that will help you greatly.
I cannot really help you with the map editor, but if you're looking for players I would love to join. Do you know when you think you'll be playing and what classes are in the group already? I have a half-elf rogue I would like to bring in, but can create a new character if you already have a rogue.
Josh you are the first so far interested in the game. i would hope to run an informal game soon. and remember, it is all experimental. just learning how to dm. I have little to no experience with magic user classes. meaning if someone played one, that person would have to be so kind as to let me know if i miss something that their toon needs to roll. a rogue would be perfectly acceptable.
Sounds good. And last time I played 3.5 we did it completely mapless, so, if anything, this sounds like a step up. I know a little about magic classes but not much. I would say if someone wants to be something that it's just their responsibility to understand their powers and how to use them. That sounds fair. Will check back here periodically to see how things progress, but message me if more people join up. Thanks.
I have a set of Dungeon Tiles that I made using MS Paint and I have them perfectly sized so that they line up exactly with the Roll20 Grid. Each Tile is four 1 inch squares with walls and door openings, there are diagonal walls and L-Shaped walls as well. There are tokens for Stairs and Doors (both open and closed), even Secret Doors. And the beauty of them is you drag them in resize them to 20X20 and they SNAP into place!

Big recommendation for you with magic users. Only thing you need to be wary of are their spells per day. Get them to go over how many spells they receive or how many points they have. Then, as they use them ask them how much that cost so you can mark it down. The rest of the items they can micro-manage unless you think something is fishy (too many spells, too much damage.)
Good thinking tommy. tnks for the advice. its so hard to find a group to play with and i am so desperate to play a game :). Ill take any advice i can get. i ask people to help me dm and all they say is the only way to learn is to do. so im gunna do it. probably make a royal mess but we can kill everyone in the village if the game starts to suck to bad.
Here is the best way to learn to DM, get one in a game you run. Trust me there are plenty of DM's that enjoy getting the chance to play. Ask them to not say anything or correct you during game, but save time afterwards to talk about how it went. I learn so much doing this. Second, on a note card or in a set of notes (i use evernote for everything) leave a section called "Need to Learn" as you are going through the game and as you feel yourself unsure of something, jot it down. If I can't find the answer quick, I make it up .... fair and "close", but made up none the less. No one likes to sit and let the excitement die. Then later on, find out what you should have done. It sticks and next time, you will know exactly what to do. If you don't mind playing outside DnD modern, I have a group of friends and someone I met here that I chat with now quite a bit. They are new to PnP, but learning. I wish I had the time, I would love to be in a game with you. If you are willing to run one Saturday night EST my WoD ST is sick and I may have time. I can tell you later today.
lol not sure what DnDmodern or PnP means or WoD ST means. but you can skype me. name is Taedrial. again tnks ofr the advice
I'd be willing to play as well as help you DM if you get stuck. I'be been DMing offline for a few years, but have only played in rolld20 that one time we played last week. I usually play fighter but can play any class
I did not mean to say DnD modern, but d20 Modern. • PnP means Pen and Paper • WoD means World of Darkness • ST means Story teller, what White Wolf games calls Game Masters If my game does cancel, I will add you and we can add one or two more.
Hippo do u know if we are on for tomorrow with lord of 13? And when I get a group started or get in another ill let u know hippo
So, we have two players. Do you know anyone else?
Just an update. i still plan on running this starter campaign. im new and slow. just give me time.
Possible schedule? Timezone? I'm interested in playing, can provide map related help (using roll20, finding resources and tools for creation), am new to 3.5 (but familiar with the rules), am available to play 6pm-12am EST Wednesday or Thursday, and am fond of run-on sentences (and parentheses).
I'm available most of the time and am looking to join a game. I have lot of experience with 3.5 and can help you with game mechanics and also mapping and that sort.
awesome kyle. if anyone plays a wizard or such, i would be hard pressed to know all their mechanics.
im thinking i will bite the bullet and say thursday 7pm EST. i can change that if it doesnt wk for someone. i would like this to be a extended campaign. i would like 4 or 5 people for this run. if you want in this group please dont sign up and then not show up. you will hurt my feelings. we will be using the 3.5 rules. if you need quick rules you can get on the wiki. i would like everyone to send me their stats for lvl 1 toons. email them eavescaleb at gmail dot com. Kyle-unknown Daniel-unknown josh-unknown Ranju-unknown Darkhippo-unknown this is not a set in stone player list. a few of these might not want in still. i would be willing go with a 6th incase we get some no shows.
I have a rogue created that I can delevel or start one for scratch. Do you want a record of the rolls or do you just trust the stats I give you?
I am experienced with 3.5 and can help any class with mechanics. Not sure what I will roll yet. Will let ya know when i decide
tnks hippo. Josh. i will trust ur scores. i just might have to make it harder :) if ur scores are too good. i would like you to 4d6 drop lowest x6 try not to restat more than 10 or so times. you can get almost anything if you keep stating.
Ok. You should have my stats.
alright! i have 2 people signed up to play. i need some more.
I'd like to try it out. I'm brand new to RPGs and want to learn 3.5
sorry, been away. I will play a sorcerer. will email you stats. You should post on reddit's lfg or roll20lfg forum to get some more players
I would like to play but Thursday isn't good for me. Is that day set in stone?
Hi, I'm interested as the only D&D I've ever really played is the style you're describing. Are you still looking for people? What potential days? What timezone are you using?
Taedrial and I are both EST. I'm usually free monday -thursday evenings around 7
Posted my char and emailed it in: http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=428447 I'd humbly suggest that we go into this realizing that if we don't gel well as a group, we casually go our separate ways (or split into separate groups) with little to no intent to kill each other.
I am EST, and monday would be great.
What char classes do you guys have already? I'll try to balance out the group.
Sorry guys. havnt looked at this post in a while. i have all i need. my apologies
Before I unfollow this thread, I wanted to let all the players still looking know that the group I'm with has an opening (or 2?) for a just started 3.5e D&D game Thursday evenings at 6pm MST (8pm EST). DM is looking for players willing to role-play, not just hack-n-slash through everything. He runs a homebrew setting. If it sounds like something you're interested in, send me a private message as I'm no longer following this thread. Thanks, and happy gaming.
