Some way of letting players use the jukebox?

Hey guys, I'd like to give my players permission to put on appropriate music, is there some macro or a way to do that? Thanks

Sadly no, that is not an existing feature. Neat idea though. There are several Suggestion threads regarding the Jukebox and sounds , but I don't think this Suggestion idea has been posted yet. If you wanted you could make a thread for this on Suggestions & Ideas sub-forum. Also, there might be a way to do that with the API for Mentor-level subscribers, I'm not sure if that's possible. Someone else will come along to answer whether it can be done with the API.

Currently only the Gm can change the jukebox, and only by choosing the tracks manually, there is no access to the jukebox from the api as that is streamed from Soundcloud. If you think about it, it would be tough if 6 or 7 players were choosing their favorite music all at once. Given varied musical tastes, you could really wind up with some noise going on. I think there are suggestions to allow playlists, which would make it easier to set the mood. The Gm should really be the one setting the mood. You can overlay multiple tracks to create a soundscape, with some dramatic effects, using loops, and then throwing in accents as non-looping sounds at key points. Like the art search, you need to spend some time setting up music and arranging it to fit your game. If you don't have an account at soundcloud, you should get one, you can find a sound there and use the URL to search in roll20, and once in your library, clicl on the title, hit [home] and put your sorting scheme before the title and it will be easier to make sense of it all. Always hit [enter] when you are done and it will save and sort.

But Al, imagine completely different types of games, or innovative uses for sounds. Example: think not of songs, but smaller sound files ("OUCH!") that could be triggered by a player. Sound effects. Or Bards, or Song Mages, presenting their tune. Or perhaps a different game where players take turns at the audio, say, Name that Tune.
The best way to put Gold's idea to work would be to have the GM assign only certain agreed upon sounds that were right for that PC. Half the time when I am in a game I set up the initial soundboard and DJ for the GM. It really makes things easier, and frees them up to keep the rest of the game running smooth. Please allow me to offer my not so current soundcloud list of music and effects. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4GYWVCu5jIwUGZjT...
Thanks for sharing that list, Razir... current or not, that is very well organized and will help newer GMs like me to find additional audio for their campaigns. :)

Except the GM can give permissions to the number of people he feels is appropriate. If he thinks everyone's musical tastes are too varied, then he'll just give permissions to one or two people. al e. said: The Gm should really be the one setting the mood. I have a teenager in one of my games; at the very least, judging my what is done with the draw tool, I will not be interested in letting sound effects to be controlled by the players

If-when Roll20 brings the new Folder features to the Jukebox section, then we can save groups of Soundcloud audio in Playlists. If there was the Player Permissions idea, perhaps each Playlist could have permissions for who could control it. Then you could set up "The Fighter's Playlist with OUCH and sword hit sounds" and "The wizard's playlist with spellcasting sounds".
