Can we change GMs during a campaign?

A friend and I have the habit of switching GMing duties every few sessions. Is this possible with Roll20? Would we just start new campaigns when we switch, or can we switch in the middle of a campaign?

Who ever created the campaign can upgrade the other to Co-GM status and they can use the campaign. There are features that only the Original Creator can use such as certain features outside the game itself (listings and some other features).

If I upgrade someone to GM status, do I need to be present for them to long into the campaign and run it?

(They would just need you for things like changing the Game Time displayed on the Details page.) By the way even Players can enter the game when you're not present, you probably knew that. But yes a Co-GM can enter the game, and do most GM activities, when the campaign owner is absent.

Because players can enter the game when you're not there, you might do what most of us do and have a splash page / between sessions page. Mine is set up to look like a clubhouse, and I have a Test Dummy token, alongside their tokens, so players can work on macros between sessions and have something to @target other than their party-members (it's a mood thing).

While we're on the topic, what exactly does making someone a GM do? What can and can't a co-GM do?

Change the version of Character Sheet that is set. Delete the entire campaign. Kick or Remove the original owner GM. Co-GM Can: Everything else particularly, namely, everything else that's in the game table. See the GM layer. Access the Map layer. Create a new map page. Put pictures on the tabletop. Put new tokens. Assign and edit tokens. Add handouts, new characters, assign journals. Move the Players ribbon to different maps. Play music from the jukebox. Read GM whispers. Make macros and token actions and show or hide them from players. Control dynamic lighting settings if the original owner GM is a Supporter/Mentor.

If this isn't on the wiki, it should be. It is an often asked question.

Yeah, I was looking around on the Wiki and couldn't really find a conclusive answer.
