Take Action!

Hello everyone, I was having a conversation with Sir Kevin a few minutes ago and we were going over some points that I think you should all see and take into account. D&D is a game where ordinary people can go to be something that they can never be in the real world (beside thief, but come on) It is a game full of risks and rewards. In the real world if we walked into a room and saw three levers, what would we do? Go home and watch tv. But when we are in planet Eris we are not in the real world. We are in a different reality where we can be anything that we want to be. I am a pretty timid person and extremely unconfrontational. I get walked all over all of the time and I don't want to start an argument or even worse a fight by addressing it. Do you think that I would go near a huge goblin head statue or jump through fire? Or challenge a room full of people to a fight? Hell no. But Ka'Gron will! I play to experience life as I never have before and that will eventually get Ka'Gron killed, but in the end it was a fun ride and I will lay him to rest and never forget the things we went through. Then I will cast the die and start again! Lets be a crazed elf or a sexually confused halfling! I know its scary guys, but there should not be fifteen seconds of silence when Steven gets done describing an area (although make sure he is done) So I ask all of you to play as your character, not as yourself. Don't use lingo in character that doesn't exist in Eris (This isn't exactly a rule or anything, just gets on my nerves) A battle hardened thief that grew up in the slums of Strongmoor should not say gurl or come at me bro etc.: So what I am saying is... Take Action!!! Live a little before you die and die well when you do. Leave your past in the past and roll the die like your invicible. Of course this is all just advice, you can take it or leave it. Yours Truly, That Guy that Always Touches Stuff.
Blake M. said: we got dat cash we got that swag I refer you to this, even though that wasn't in character, but still.
I'm honored, Jesse. I also second your point. The best part of D&D is making decisions an imaginary person has to regret. I live for the moment when everyone says "welp, he's gonna die." And then I don't.
Jesse, you make a good point, but I play my characters as an extension of myself, I have fun immagining it is me out there doing all this, I am a bit timid an unconfrontational myself, but there are things I would fight for. I immagine it's a part of me out there doing this stuff, every character is one facet of my personality or another expanded upon. I immagine it is real and I don't want to die, but I do have fun, and I do RP, not every player or character is a touch that kinda guy. Emery has become my boldest character by means of touching things, if it has a chance to cure his water weakness he'll do anything. Especially if we have a cleric or two that can res nearby and it's a good death for the team, that can really instill confidence. I do RP my characters, but with everyone there and talking, less is said and I try to just get out there. Also, I'm still finding Emery in terms of his personality, I think the unexpected water weakness threw off my whole idea for him, so I'm still feeling him out. My other characters I've found them, but I am unsure for him.
You are a deep guy, your alright.

This came up when I was talking to Jesse about how when Ka'Gron isn't there it's harder to make progress. He's become a comfortable buffer. Hardly anyone needs to take risks when he's out front willing to do anything.
Lorielle has her own reasons for the choices she makes.
Huzzah! I am not a strong roleplayer, by inclination or ability. One reason I like OD&D is how it lends itself to be played as a game (and not "listen to my angsty soliloquy from failed thespians"). Still, I do try/like to keep in character, always using character names, simple things like sayin "I open the door" vs "Malifoi opens the door" (all which I find harder online). Sorry for when I slip. Feel free to call me out (friendly like), as player or DM.
I do the same thing.
I'm accustomed to playing multiple characters, when speaking of actions I tend to give my character's name instead of "I", and I find it also helps the DM know who was speaking. I've had multiple times in voice chat type games where I say "I do something" and someone is like "Who said that? Who was that I?" or such. I do sometimes flip back and forth, if I suspect everyone present will recognize my voice I may say "I take a sip of that potion." or such, but it does seem like every time I try to do something reckless Ka'gron does it first. Which I don't know whether to be offended or greatful for it sometimes.
