Player looking for DnD group to help me learn the system

I've played Tabletop RPGs, but not DnD or Pathfinder or any of the well known ones, really. I'd like to learn DnD, though, so if anyone is willing to run a game for newbies to the system please comment below. Central Time Zone
may i join you?
i would like to learn as well.
I know how to play, but never on a site like this,
What have you played before Matt?
I would be willing to run, I know how to play 3rd, 4th and "Next" (5th). I am also in Central Time zone and could run weekday nights M, T or W 6-10ish (might be somewhat flexible on that). I would prefer to not to commit to something long-term. I'm itching to try out Roll20, but until I do, don't know how well it works - I have found a lot of Online Tabletops have issues - hoping this is the best. I have built a test environment on here and was VERY impressed. 3e is very much like Pathfinder, if you are interested in learning to play something widely supported. 4e is simpler, but very combat oriented, World of Warcraft fans seem to pick it up fast. Next is probably the easiest (since the rules are being written they are pretty basic so far). It tends to be a lot less tactical and you can get a lot of adventure in a few hours. Let me know if you're interested.

As for what I have played, I've done an Exalted (modified) game, Pokemon Tabletop Adventures, and a D6 homebrew of my friend's design. Everyone else looking to join is free to join me, unless more people post and Tom can't handle that party size.
Depending on if you end up going with 3e or 4e I'd be happy to join the game.
Do you have an edition preference? I think if you've played exalted you'll be just fine. Is using pregenerated characters ok? I guess I'd prefer to keep it to a party of four - maybe the classics (fighter, wizard, rogue, cleric)?
Considering I've never played DnD I have no preference. I like creating my own character, but since I'm still learning pregens are totally fine with me.
Also, if everyone has skype, we could use a group call for conversation and roll20 for whispers/dice rolls
If we use google +, the hangouts feature plays roll20 right in the same window, which is pretty nice, as it all plays in one window. You need a gmail account though.
That's fine, I'll link you to my Google+ page. I have Tabletop Forge, if that's what you're talking about.
Cool, Google+ is it. I was talking about Roll20 - it works perfectly within Google Hangouts. Let's do 3rd ed and see if we can find 3 other people.
If I wanted to start playing DnD.. what exactly would I need to do so? I want to start playing but I am unsure if I need to physically acquire anything first.
hi i would very much like to join i have played some Adnd not much though
Well if you want to play with us you would need to be available 6-10 Mon/ Wed Central Standard Time. You would need a Google+ account, with a reliable internet connection and a set of headphones/ mic. That's about it. Looks like we have one slot open if Matt, James and Benjamin play.
I would like to join
Skype is thecrowing1432 if you want to contact me.
I just have to get myself a players handbook and then I am definitely keen on joining in, haha.. it's just proving a bit of a problem locating one where I live.
Looks like we have our group. If you would like to add me on Google +, my name is Thomas Jesse Morris, and my photo is very green.
Since we are using pregens you probably don't need one. I would suggest you download the 3.0 SRD, or you can just look at them here (or on various sites): http://www.d20srd.org/ It's also cheaper ;)
I just added some people with your names to my google + circles, please make sure I have the right people (except James, who added me). I'd like to make sure Matt, Benjamin, Eric and James will all be around Monday, 6-8 central standard time, and are still planning on playing so that we can look for alternates. Ideally Monday I'd like to test out Roll20 with Google Hangouts, answer any system questions. Is anyone interested in generating their own characters? I can do pregens, but don't want to rob anyone of a chance to play with the system in this way. It's publicly available for free due to the open game license of 3rd ed (see link in previous post). If someone wants to do this, we need to settle on classes first, so we don't end up with 4 elven wizards or something. If I don't hear from people by Saturday midnight CST, I'm going to start looking for alternates, just to keep things rolling. Just drop me a line on here or Google + or email or whatever. -Tom
I would be interested in making my own character, I have the 3.5 srd from that website. I am happy to play any class that the group needs.
Okay, we have our fighter and our wizard. Contact me soon Eric and Benjamin - we still need a cleric and a rogue!
Scratch that, we still need a wizard and cleric!
Just a reminder: PLEASE contact me on Google + (Thomas Jesse Morris - very GREEN photo) if you would like to play in this game (Eric and Benjamin). If I don't hear from people by Saturday midnight CST, I'm going to start looking for alternates, just to keep things rolling. -Tom
If you need an alternate as a Cleric, I'm game. I've played plenty of 3.5, but no 4e. I can learn systems quick in any case.
Also, what's your starting level?
We are starting at level 1. This would be 3.5 edition, using the "standard array" (15,14,13,12,10,8, modified by race) and only the PHB. If I don't hear from Eric or Ben by midnight, you can be our cleric. This game would be meeting 6-8 Monday to work out any Roll20 or Google+ tech issues/ answer questions and play Wed 6-10 Central Standard time. If you'd like to add me on Google+, I'll give you first crack at the alternate spot.
Also. I can make you a pregen or you can create the character depending on your preference.
Oh god level 1. I must have gotten spoiled starting everything off at either 3 or 5. Either way, added you on Google+. I'll make my own sheet.
Might want to wait until Sunday, just so I know I have a slot for you.
Hey, running a one shot tonight to teach new players 4e. Starts in 15 min. https://app.roll20.net/join/21942/sI5uwg
Just trying to figure out what the time difference between the forums and my place is, lol.
We have 1 more slot available for a wizard or sorcerer. If you've ever wanted to play DnD 3rd, hit me up on Google+. First come first serve! We meet Mon 6-8, then play Wed 6-10 central time.
Matt, haven't heard from you - just want to make sure you'll be there Wed?
