A new campaign taking place in Faerun where players will travel the continent, explore the Underdark and meet deadly foes. Long post incoming! Since a lot of people showed interest in the other campaign I'm starting, I decided I would make a second one. I'm an experienced DM that wants to start a new campaign in the Forgotten Realms setting using a hybrid of 3.5 and Pathfinder. The game will be played once a week on a weekday evening (Monday through Thursday, depending on everyone’s schedule) from 6pm to 11:30pm (EST). I indicated that the game will start in March because I want to take the time to find the right players and I need to fully familiarize myself with DMing on Roll20, but if it so happens that we can start earlier, then we will. Let’s get in the specifics now. YOU: I’m looking for players who will show up, participate and understand the first concept of D&D: the books are guidelines. It will be a long term campaign and I would very much like to bring this game to 15th level at least. It’s a noob friendly environment and I’m always happy to introduce new players given that they understand the commitment. I’m not looking for min-maxers. If you’re goal is to create a barbarian/paladin/summoner/alchemist/witch half-vampire-fiendish noble drow, this is not the place for you. I don’t expect you to change your voice for the sake of role-playing but this game will be a lot about character development and story. It’s totally encouraged to have a rich backstory. THE CAMPAIGN: It will be played, as mentioned, in the Forgotten Realms using Pathfinder for the class/race system and most of the rules. Some are taken from 3.5 but it’s mostly the same anyway except in precise cases. The year is 1372 and the location is somewhere in the north (TBD). The story will start out as your characters arrive in the region to find out more about what seems to be a disturbance between how magic and nature interact. The specific motives of your character will have to be determined upon character creation. It will be a low magic/gold environment. By that I don’t mean your class will have restricted abilities, I mean that you shouldn’t expect to be able to buy 10 cure light wounds potions easily. There is no magic items “wal-mart”. Take note that I will try to make every magic item you find unique. Also, you won’t run into hoards and loads of treasures, so spend wisely. The magic item creations rules will be a bit different, but I encourage using them, same with crafting skills. All that is to bring back the “mystery vibe” older editions had. Maybe it will make your characters a little less powerful but don’t worry; I’ll balance the encounters accordingly. CHARACTER CREATION: The only book permitted for classes and races is the Pathfinder core rulebook. I’m not a huge fan of multiclassing so if it’s your intention, we can look at one of the hybrid classes Paizo created in the Advanced Class Guide. Then again, no classes outside the core are permitted, so no gunslinger/investigator. But otherwise, I encourage the use of the classic 11 classes in the core. The character progression will be rather slow and I estimate that you will gain a level every 2 months or so. I will not be using the experience points system since I think it forces you to build encounters in a specific way. You will have to train/study between levels to learn the new abilities/spells you gained in the process. I don’t want evil alignments in the group and you should consider the alignments of others, if everyone is chaotic neutral, I wouldn’t advise playing a paladin. OTHER DETAILS: - I used to have a web radio show and I’m a music programmer/amateur musician, so the soundtrack and other audio components will be of top quality. I like to use game soundtracks during my sessions (Skyrim for example). - We will be using skype but it is not required that we see your face during the game; you won’t see mine because I don’t have a webcam on my desktop computer. I would still like to see you when we first meet and talk about your character, I’ll use my laptop for that so that you can see me too. We’re obviously using microphones. - Please be at least 16 if you want to play in this campaign. I don’t know the specific rules of Roll20 about age (if any) so I’m saying in case. - My native language is French so I’m cool and understand that you might struggle in English. Just make sure you’re good enough to keep up. - I’d like to have sessions 2 out of 3 weeks. Once a week can be hard sometimes on people’s schedule but bi-weekly isn’t often enough. That’ll be up for vote in the group. - I won’t be using any pre-made stories or campaign material, all original. - I like to incorporate a bit of humor in the middle of the ocean of seriousness that is D&D. - This is the second game I'm starting and they will both run in parallel.
