Nested groups of polygons are broken in Chrome

Detailed Description of the Problem Let's imagine you are building walls out of polygons.  You group some of them, so that you can move them somewhere.  Then you want to add more polygons to the group.  If you try to do this, the first (already grouped) polygons get teleported to the upper-left corner of the tabletop (but they do get grouped).  Very, very occasionally, this works as intended, and I don't know why. Steps to Reproduce the Problem In this screenshot, I've already drawn a black box and a line across the diagonal, and grouped them.  I'm about to group the red line with the already-grouped black pieces (also note the poor alignment of the "group/ungroup" with "Advanced" which makes it really hard to mouse to either option): And then I click the mouse: Now you can see the box has launched over into the corner of the map (I'm guessing that's 0,0?). Description of Your Setup (Browser + Version, Operating System, etc.) Sorry about the bold.  It's Google Chrome (whatever version it's at on 5/14/2013), Windows 7 x64.

If I understand correctly the process is:  1) Draw box using Draw Shape (holding shift to align to grid) 2) Draw nw-se diagonal line using Polygon/line (holding shift to align to intersections) 3) Group box and line.  4) Draw a sw-ne diagonal line using Polygon/line (holding shift to align to intersections) 5) Group previous group and new line.  Result: upon hitting the 'group' option you experience the shifted box? - Gauss
That's almost it.  I drew the box as a polygon/line, too.  I also typically right-click to finish the box, even though it actually finishes itself once you close the box. I'd also specify that I'm grouping by choosing the "select/move" tool and drawing a box, then right-click->advanced->group.  Then for step 4 you have to re-select the polygon/line tool. And yes, right when I group, the previous group of two polygons goes haywire. -Dave
So a finalized, step-by-step (an edit of your post): Draw box using Polygon/line (holding shift to align to grid) (maybe optional) Right-click to "finish" already-finished polygon  Draw nw-se diagonal line using Polygon/line (holding shift to align to intersections, right-click to "finish" line)  Group box and line using Select/move tool, drawing a selection box, and then right-click->advanced->group Draw a sw-ne diagonal line using Polygon/line (holding shift to align to intersections, right-click to "finish" line) Group previous group and new line using Select/move tool, drawing a selection box, and then right-click->advanced->group  Result: upon hitting the 'group' option you experience the shifted box. I think that several things are not strictly necessary to reproduce the problem - if you just make some overlapping polygons and group them in a nested fashion, I'm reasonably confident you'll see the issue.  But this method I know causes the problem at least 90% of the time, on two different computers.

I have confirmed the bug. Here is the revised sequence. 1. Draw two objects (can be anything from any art tool except for text) 2. Switch to select tool 3. drag objects and then group objects 4. do not deselect the grouped objects (this is where the bug comes from).  5. click on an art tool and draw a third object.  6. switch to select tool 7. group the 3rd object with the first group. If you deselect the grouped object in step 4 this will not occur. Filing a bug report. - Gauss
Is there any easy way to de-select the objects until they get it fixed?  Does just clicking anywhere else work?  That would explain why occasionally it worked fine... -Dave

Sure, clicking anywhere else or hitting the escape key are the usual methods for deselecting an object. Frankly, the reason I haven't ever seen this bug is because I automatically deselect stuff as I am doing my drawings. It prevents me from accidentally doing something. :) - Gauss
