Tech-Use and heretical research going forward...

So I've been thinking that I've been letting research move too swiftly in the game. Up until now I've been using the crafting chart in the skill section for all item creation rolls, when its intended use is crafting an item from a design not designing improvements and building them. Going forward I'm going to start using the Investigation rules as a base for determining how long it takes to research/develop new designs. Then continue to use the crafting rules to turn the design into reality. Complexity Difficulty Modifier Example(s) Time Simple Easy +30 Analyzing the basic principles behind an example of top of line 41st millennium Imperial technology after dissembled example of said technology to use as a guide. 1 hour Basic Routine +20 Designing replacement parts for existing top of the line technology using basic principles. 6 hours Drudging Ordinary +10 Designing new top of the line technology using basic principles. Mastering the principles behind an example of top of line 41st millennium Imperial technology. 24 hours Taxing Challenging 0 Developing a slight improvement on 41st millennium Imperial technology. Ex. 10% improvement to engine output. Analyzing the basic principles behind an example of top of line Great Crusade era technology. 72 hours Arduous Difficult –10 Developing a significant improvement on 41st millennium technology. Ex. 25% improvement to engine output. 14 days Involved Hard –20 Designing technology equal to that used during the Great Crusade, i.e. major improvement on existing technology. Ex. 50% improvement to engine output. Mastering the principles behind an example of Great Crusade technology. 30 days Labyrinthine Very Hard –30 Developing tech that is a slight improvement over that used during the Great Crusade; tech that flaunts but does not break the Universal Laws of the Adeptus Mechanicus. 1d5 years Each Degree of Success reduce the time spend on R&D by one hour. Skills needed for Research will likely include Awareness, Logic, Medicae, Scholastic Lore, and Scrutiny EDIT Questions, comments, concerns?
Wow the last 2 are killer. 30days and 1d5 years, what would examples of thous.

Looks like iv got my work cut out for me.
Can the times for the different times be reduced by DoS or a dedicated Lab just for R&D and Exparamints .
The Laboratorium ship component provides a +20 bonus to all tests to identify, analyze, repair artifacts of ancient or Xenos origin, or to any tests to craft single items (such as a single weapon or piece of armor). This could include Scholastic Lore, Forbidden Lore, Tech-Use, and Trade tests (as well as others at the GM’s discretion). So it would help, yes but at best it would shave hours off the base duration required to complete the research when you are putting months or years into R&D.
