World Map Name replacements

I was considering building a packet with a whole bunch of creative names that can be used to replace the name of cities on maps made by others or imported maps. It would be a image with customizable on size, and one base background to hide the current cities name. The packet could be as large as 100-200 random names. All you would have to do is drop the selected name over the city and it would hide the map base city name, and give you many assorted names to use for everything from Villages to Massive City structures. I would like to know what people think and if this is something they would like to see?

Actually, it sounds interesting Dragon. Could you show an example of what you're talking about? And not having to come up with a name, but choosing it from a list is an interesting prospect. It doesn't have to be the actual product, but maybe a quick render or picture tutorial of what your talking about... As a non-naming map maker - this is an intriguing idea.

Well this would be something basic but, once its set to drawing you can resize to what ever you need. Moving it around and place on top of any map. This is the one label that is done in the map. Here is before and after Picture: Before: After: I only edited one so you could see how it could work. Perhaps a dark black color for the name but in general this is about the idea of it. The great thing is the packet would including a large sample of random names that can be used for custom map design.

I couldn't in good faith advise you to spend time on that, as it would take anyone with basic skill in a free graphics program just ten seconds to do the same. I don't honestly think it would sell. Maybe some nice fancy scrolls like Russ does though for place-names would.

Scrolls would be nice, but the problem comes to play when your using scrolls for small name placement. It would work for the world maps for display but it wouldn't work for each name because it would take up to much space. The texture could be any style, although your right about anyone could do it, but some questions comes to play. Can you create random names? Do you really want to spend hours creating tags when you could just purchase a large list? Is it worth your time or would you rather just pay 4.99 for 200 random town names?

I would agree with Alan on this one Dragon. The idea is interesting but the follow through needs a little more oomph before it could be a product. Perhaps create your own banner, or several background banners in various themes (sci-fi, modern, steampunk, fantasy), and create a solid look for the place names on a transparency that could go on top of any. At this stage, it's not very marketable.

I'm not sure that would go over well with those who's maps are being altered, whether permanent of not, those who put there maps online for free use have terms and this could possibly infringe upon them terms. And with people streaming their games and such, it could cause them unwanted and unnecessary trouble, even if it is just to explain that it's an overlay on said artist's map. I could be wrong, but you may want to look into it in my opinion.

Total brainfart there. It's quite possible the maps also have a EULA that would negate the use of material on top in a different layer not originally intended for that use.

Yeah I never really thought about it that way but I believe you might be right on that. I would have to look into it further to find out about exactly how that works out. But thank you for the information I think I'm going to put a hold on that put on the back burner until further information is found out.
