I'm considering upgrading to Mentor account. I currently GM a campaign that was created by a player with a Mentor account. After reading the trasmogrifier, I fear I will not be able to use it on this campaign, since I wasn't the original creator. Is this correct?

You are correct, you can only Transmogrify between Campaigns you are the original creator of.

I suppose if you are the player on all the characters, you could put them in your Character Vault and then restore them on a new campaign. There might be some API solutions for Journals that could be created.
