Super Hardcore One Shot Tonight

If there is any interest I am going to run a really old school one shot, we will use the Dungeons and Dragons 5E game mechanics... What do you mean, Hardcrore? Players will roll 3d6, in order, no adjustments of any kind. Once you roll your stats you have 5 minutes to create a character... Please Understand what I mean when I say No Adjustments, you play with what you roll, the only caveat will be if a player's abilities contain more than 1 stat lower than 6, they can, as an option reroll all of their stats over... All rolls will be done in game... Time will be 8:00 PM CST and only if there is some interest, this will be a One Session Game, that might be a lot of fun. Game should last about 3 hours... Post Interest Here if you'd like to give this a try... Note: This method of character creation was the first used in the introduction of the game back in the 1970's... -Ajax
Sure I'll play. I need a game tonight and super hardcore wouldn't be too bad. Even as a one shot I wonder, will there be any narrative? How's the story structure, will we only be doing combat?
You do realize that ADND had completely different mechanics right? There wasn't really any linear grown of +1s to attack, damage, or AC(Thac0) boost till you had a 16 or so in the relevant stat. Which were supposed to be rare. So the difference between 8-15 in say STR didn't affect combat, you were just slightly better 1-7% at bending bars, and bash open doors went from 5 or lower on a d20 to 8 or lower on a d20. At an amazing 17 Str you got all of +1 to hit and damage. Not statistically that much of a difference for the midrange ability scores. It's a different game. For 5e it's assumed you have at least a 16 in your primary stat because that +3 to hit/DC save is built into the system. What are the monsters all going to get 3d6 down the line stat adjustments? You're not playing it oldschool, you're breaking the mechanics of the game for a pseudo challlenge that statistically won't work. Say someone has a negative dex score, a 7. That's a -2 to a bounded accuracy game. If they rolled to be a caster, or a class that only gets light armor, you're looking at a 10-11 AC.(Light armor or Mage Armor). When the goblins have +4 to hit? without advantage? They are being hit more than 60% of the time. With advantage, it's death.
Mind your own business!
I'm down to give it a shot, what are you using for voice?
I'd like to try it as well. I don't have a lot of 5e experience so I may struggle to build the character in 5 minutes, but I take your point to do it as quickly as possible. Thanks
