Recruiting for one-shot Pathfinder game

A one-shot Pathfinder game to try out roll20. The game will be played on Monday, August 6 at 4:00PM UTC. Greyhill is a small, frontier town set in the foothills of the Pathless Mountains. After decades of prosperity fueled by a mining boom, the region has now fallen on rough times. As the mines dried up one by one, so too did trade into and out of the area. The larger cities which protected the once valuable region turned their backs and left Greyhill to fend for itself. About me I'm new to roll20 but not completely new to RPG's (while I *am* completely new to Pathfinder I've played 3.5, so I'm not expecting much rules trouble). I played a lot in high school and college but haven't been involved much lately. Now I'm just looking to try out roll20 and see how it goes. This will be my first time running a game in a few years, so you'll have to bear with me. The game The game will probably favor role play and skill checks over combat, and it will definitely not be a dungeon crawl. If you are just looking to fight or show off your mad powergaming skills then this won't be for you. It will most likely be a homebrew adventure of some sort. The character requirements Looking for 4 players. Characters will be first level using 20 point buy and only core classes. I'm not particularly interesting in seeing some strange build so just keep it simple. Since this is a combat light one-shot there's really no reason to try and come up with something wacky. Characters should all be relatively good as well; I don't want to spend half the game time listening to intra-party arguments because one person wants to be chaotic evil and steal from everyone. The party should be balanced as well, so you should be willing to change your class/skills/whatever to fit the party needs if it comes to that. The game time The game will take place on Monday, August 6 at 4:00 pm UTC, which I think is noon on the east coast of the US (I'm in Finland, which is UTC +3). Other player requirements 1. You aren't a jerk 2. You have sense of humor 3. You have a microphone 4. You show up if you say you will, or let me know if you can't make it 5. You must make a character sheet on http://www.myth-weavers.com for you character and send me the link before the game begins 6. You should be willing to try playing through Google+ Hangouts if the non-Hangout version does not work correctly (this is only because I have read multiple people saying that they've had audio chat problems when using roll20 outside of a Hangout) 7. You've actually read this entire post How to apply Send me a PM if you fit the requirements. If more than 4 people respond then it'll be first come first serve. Extra The LFG listing is here: http://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/81/greyhill Questions can be posted here. I'll check this thread periodically.
One shot pathfinder tomorrow I'm total down for....what this MythWeavers thing?
....what this MythWeavers thing? It's a play-by-post site, and they have very nice online character sheets that can be shared publically (here's an example I made). You can register an account for the site and fill out a character sheet (just don't forget to set it to public) and then send me the link. Registering would only take 30 seconds and you could probably use some disposable email account, like 10minutemail.com , if you really don't want to be giving them your email for some reason. If you have some other way to share a character sheet that would probably be fine too. I just want to see the sheet ahead of time so that we can figure out if there's any adjustments to be done before the game starts.
So far one person has sent a character sheet (a rogue) and a few others have express interest but haven't confirmed. Unless I can get at least 2 more to confirm (so minimum 3 players) in the next hour or so I think the game will have to be delayed. I guess I underestimated how much ahead of time I would need to make the advertisement post. Or are there just not many people here looking for games that are being played at times other than evening/late-night in the US time zones? If people are interested in the game but need more warning on the game time let me know and we can try to pick something that will work (probably next free time for me would be in a couple weeks).
Didn't get any more responses, so this game is cancelled. If anyone wants to try and work out a new time to play, feel free to post here.
Damn! Was excited for my first adventure :(
Yeah, sorry about that. I'll keeping watching this thread though and if some more people show up I'll send you a message and we can try to work out a new time. I just tried to load up the virtual table for the game and it seems to be down for me at the moment anyway. Maybe we wouldn't have been able to do it right now even if there had been enough people...
Ok, sounds good. Also, keep me in mind if you ever find any other campaigns that are looking for additional players as well. I am willing to play anything!!!
Seems I found this oen too late. If you do something like this in the future, let me know. My character is only a lvl 1 rogue, but I can make another one since seems Silly J. also uses a rogue.
I'm still up for running this if we can get enough people and find a time that works for everyone. It sounds like there's two now that are pretty interested, so if there's one or two more out there we can start things moving again. About the classes, a balanced party is always good and especially at low levels. But as long as everyone is a little flexible then I'm not worried.
I can try asking for people on a forum that usually gathers people for PF games, some of which forum ones. I'll just direct them here. If we're lucky we can get the people we need.
That sounds good. I'm gonna reply to your other message as soon as I get a chance to look at the character sheet a little closer.
I'd be happy to jump in as long as I don't have a conflict with whenever you reschedule to. If this is going to be combat light I think I'd like to try out a bard, but I'm fine with swapping to something else if there's a more important role that needs to be covered.
Ditto on the jumping in pending reschedule time
Awesome, seems we have the 4 people we need.
Cool. What times are best for everyone? Weekdays? Weekends? I'm unfortunately going to be pretty busy for about the next week and a half, but then starting around 20 August I should be free any day in the evenings/nights (UTC+3).
I live in Finland so that's around good time for me. Just let me know if I should make another character instead of the rogue I had. I shouldn't have anything at that date. What's good for others?
wow just saw it was noon est - I cant do that sorry
Weekdays are generally better for me, but since it's a one-shot I can probably swing a Saturday. Sundays are out I'm afraid.
Forgot to mention, I can do any day, but mondays are kidna bad for me. Well every other one is, but just to be sure, let's try to get it on any day but Monday.
How does something like 7:00PM EEST (UTC+3) on Tuesday, August 21 sound to everyone? I'm just throwing that out there, it is by no means the only time that would work for me. Silly J., are you still interested in this? Scott, that's no problem about the time. I'll remove you from the game since you can't make the time. Let me know if something changes and you want back in. It seems we are looking for one more player (possibly 2 if Silly has dropped).
Sounds great. Looking forward to it.
What time would that be PTS?
sorry PST
Looks like PST is UTC-7, so that makes it, uh, 9:00AM? Something like that at least. I think we can assume Silly J is out since he hasn't logged into the site in over a week. So now we are looking for 2 players for a one-shot pathfinder game on Tuesday, August 21 at 4:00PM UTC. See the first post of this thread for more information or check out the game's page, here . Send a PM or respond to this post if you want to play.
Yep 8 am pst works for me I was planning on playing a bard or a rouge either human or tengu. Also PST is -8 iirc so it is 8 am probably.
If possible, pick the Bard. I'm already using a rogue.
I'd actually already mentioned earlier that I'd like to try a bard, but I guess I can swap if it's going to be an issue.
I'd be fine switching to fighter or sorcerer so long as it is tengu.
Time SHOULD be alright for me it's noon my time.I plan on playing a Ranger as thats the sheet I already have put together if possible. It's also the only class I have any knowledge of I only started tabletops 2 days ago
We have 5 players signed up to play now. Four is my preferred number, but I thought I'll take one extra in case someone ends up not being able to make it at the last minute. But even if everyone shows up, 5 players should still be fine. Recruitment is closed at this point, unless someone drops out. This is what I have put together as the preferred class list: Samuli - Rogue DSSCRA - Bard, rogue, fighter, sorcerer Tori - Bard Stanley - Ranger Joel - ?? @DSSCRA - Any reason why you want to be a tengu? It might not be a problem, but I just hadn't been planning on people being anything other than the core races and what to make sure I understand people's intentions. I guess at this point it looks like the fighter might be the most useful for the group, but that shouldn't be the deciding factor. @Stanley - The character sheet you sent looks OK at first glance, but I'll go over it again later. Only thing I noticed now was the alignment. I don't mind if the character's aren't the ultimate Goody Two-Shoes, but they will need to play nice in the group and be easily motivated into helping out (since we don't have enough time to deal with a lot of complex motivations in a short one-shot). @Everyone - Try to join the game at some point to make sure it works and pick out a token for your character. And don't feel like you should play a class just cause that's what you know. If you have a character idea but don't know the rules for it then we can try to figure it out.
How do I pick a character token? I could join, but found no way to pick it.
I just liked tengu because I like birds and I like neutral characters also they don't really seem to need a complex motivation so it seemed like a decent pick. Since it is a one shot I'll go what is better for the party and be a fighter.
I think I'll have to drop my position. From what I understand this will be happening around 1200 my time on a weekday, but I have to leave for work at 1330 so I wouldn't have very long to play. If we could do this earlier or on a weekend maybe I could do it.
@Samuli R. - Apparently I was confused. I thought players in the game could access the art library and pick a token themselves but it seems they can't, only the GM can put tokens on the map. I guess I'll try to pick some then. @DSSCRA - That sounds fine to me. @Joel V. - OK. Assuming this game goes OK then I will probably be doing more one-shots in the near future. I might even be able to do one on the next weekend, the 25th or 26th. If I do I'll let you know.
Finished filling it out http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=435394
@DSSCRA You got no prior experience? Well if you leave your Skype username I can do the character sheet with you. Mine is Greil9.
Yea never played a table top rpg before also I searched that skype name and couldn't fine anything my skype name is DSSCRA Edit: nvm found it
@DSSCRA - I looked at your sheet and it seems OK, so I guess you got all the character creation details sorted out? Were there any more problems? Does anyone else have any character creation issues? Everyone might also want to double check what time the game is in your local time. I think roll20 said that it automatically adjusts the game time to the users local time, so if you go to the campaign page for the game and look at the 'Next game will be' it might already be in whatever your time zone is.
@DSSCRA - I looked at your sheet and it seems OK, so I guess you got all the character creation details sorted out? Were there any more problems? Samuli was kind enough to walk me through the stuff I was confused about as far as I know there shouldn't be any problems.
1 hour to go :O
That means it's time to start planning the adventure :D
Half an hour to go, maybe we should get like a skype call or something going??
