RageDMing a new game (probably PF), looking for requests/suggestions

This is not a call for players just yet. The DM-to-player ratio is so crappy that I can just pick people up whenever I'm actually ready to run something. I am looking for a few pieces of advice from the LFG pool about what/how I should run: a) I have experience with other systems, but the go-to game is probably going to be some version of D&D. This is partly due to the usual process that leads to me running something: I join a game as a player, it flails around until it falls apart, then I get frustrated and take over as GM for the failed game on short notice, which leads to me "pulling something off the shelf" from D&D's extensive back-catalog. So projects I have done recently include: converting BECMI Sabre River and 2e Night Below to 4e, and converting 3.0 Banewarrens and 3.5 Mindscapes to Pathfinder. If the choice is between 4e and Pathfinder then I prefer PF. (I ran a paragon campaign for 4e through 2009-10 and at this point I'm "not interested" in the system any more.) Really what I am looking for here is whether people have specific requests for stuff they'd like to see run in the PF system. I could potentially do more conversions of just about anything from 1e/Basic to 4e. If people request it, I can also do Adventure Paths, although I don't own any and I have yet to actually play through one (for more than 1-2 sessions before the game falls apart). I should add that I am pretty decent at modifying stuff I think is poorly written/thought through, adapting the adventure to the actions of the party etc. etc. b) I wanted to check to see whether people are especially fussy about having preloaded "artsy" maps/tokens/etc., and to what extent I can get away with whiteboarding everything. Related question is how important for game quality it is that the DM have a supporter/mentor account. c) I also wanted to check whether running the game on, say, a mediocre laptop over shared wi-fi is doomed to fail and going to crash anything if I run a larger party (6-8 people plus DM). My Roll20 experience is one session as a player, which seemed to work fine, but I have no clue if I need a better computer/ISP if I'm coming at this from the DM side. Thanks in advance for your input.
I have been trying to get a game set up. I have five players including myself. What we need is a GM. We are looking to play a mid-level campaign, and judging by the characters people posted, it would be starting at level nine. There is something to be said for starting at the beginning, but the cool stuff really starts to happen around level ten. We would be looking to play pathfinder, although at least one person has shown interest in bringing in elements from 3.0/3.5. I personally would want to run a gunslinger, so guns would be involved in the story. Speaking of story, anything works for me at least, but I would want there to be one. Dungeon crawling is interesting only for so long. If you are interested, here is the link to the campaign listing. https://app.roll20.net/campaigns/details/123479/homebrew As to your other questions, I have no problem without maps. I would ask for a grid, but I can live without one. To the best of my knowledge, your laptop should hold up fine if it could handle your session as a player. I am looking to get feedback from the other people who have shown interest. Feel free to check the listing and ask some questions of your own. If you would be willing to run the game we would sure appreciate it. Either way, I'm looking to get you some feedback from someone other than just myself.
I am very much looking for some story, but I do enjoy lots of enemies as well. A fun campaign might be against drows, or repelling a goblin invasion.
SCOTT S. said: c) I also wanted to check whether running the game on, say, a mediocre laptop over shared wi-fi is doomed to fail and going to crash anything if I run a larger party (6-8 people plus DM). My Roll20 experience is one session as a player, which seemed to work fine, but I have no clue if I need a better computer/ISP if I'm coming at this from the DM side. I've run test games on my mediocre other laptop and Roll20's held up just fine. Where you might run into problems is with communication. TokBox has issues, Skype can be a resource/bandwidth hog for some computers for no apparent reason, etc. I recommend getting everyone together for an introductory session and checking to see if things hold up. FWIW, I use Mumble due to its low system usage footprint and low bandwidth requirement. We occasionally have some players in real out of the way areas and it works pretty well. As to "fussy" - just run with what you're comfortable with. I like a lot of visible doo-dads and things to keep players interested, but I've run with just blank pages and quick sketches before, no one complained. Most players aren't in a position where they can be choosy and you'll probably want to dump the ones who complain anyway. I like having a Supporter level for the dynamic lighting alone. It's gotten complements when used effectively and adds to immersion, but you can run a really solid game with just fog of war. I have run up against the 100MB limit of uploads before trimming my art library back, however it takes a conscious effort to fill up what you have for free. Don't feel pressured to pay in order to GM (I do feel that my five bucks a month is money well spent however). You can find players for any edition of D&D here in more numbers than you will want to handle. So don't feel obligated to pick a version that's not your favorite. I run a Swords and Wizardry 0E game, I know of at least one BECMI/RC game going on and there's 1E and 2E games posted with some regularity. Good luck!
I am looking at options and will try to get out background info/chargen instructions as soon as possible (i.e. by the end of the long weekend at latest). At the very least it's probably going to be 4d6 drop lowest / 20 pt buy / standard array 16/14/13/12/11/9 (player's choice) 2 traits as standard (not sure if the choosing-from-2-different-lists thing has a point) hero points as standard (because I like "putting pressure" on PCs) anything you want to use from SRD including non-core classes/races/etc. and monsters-as-PCs willing to discuss inclusion of 3.x material Unfortunately I don't know yet if I want to start at level 9 (last two games I ran began at 5 and 8). I realize that doesn't help so much with character builds, but maybe with that you can start working on whatever ideas you have. I don't require written character backgrounds but having at least some idea of a "shtick" might be useful. Whatever source materials I use can probably be shoehorned into Golarion so might as well just assume that for the campaign world (if you're worried about not being able to take certain backgrounds and whatnot). Post other questions, char sheets, etc. here and I will update further after I do a bit more research.
