I want to know if anyone would be interested in playing a game based on the super mario series. I'm going to take a elements from the super mario games and D&D, and I think the battle system is going to be similar to FF tactics It's going to play more as a video game and a little lighter on the role play aspect. I'm thinking of creating each area as a "level" and it will basically be one big encounter in till you reach the end. I want to add a point based system for each level for example kill a bad guy you get x points. Then reward players with coins based on their points. 1st place = 10 2nd place = 5 3rd = 3 4th = 1.That way it would add some friendly competition between players. The exp system will be based off paper mario. A player will level up once they reach 100 exp. Each bad guy will give 1-5 exp depending on their level. Leveling up is going to be a mash up between paper mario and super mario rpg. There is going to be HP, FP (flower Points a.k.a. mana) and BP (badge point) as well as attack, defense, magic power, magic defense. As of right now players are going to basically have complete freedom over their stats. Each player will start of with 6 Major Stat Points. MSP will be used for HP(5), FP(5), and BP(3). so a player can make any combination they want depending on what type of character they want to play. 30 HP 0 FP 0 BP or 5HP 15FP 6 BP The only rule is you have to put at least 1 MSP into HP. At the start of the game players can choose to receive bonuses in minor stats (Atk, Def, Magic, Magic res) for each time they level up. However there has to be a penalty from another stat to do so. For example If a player chooses they want to buff their Magic power they will receive a penalty on a different stat. (Atk -1 Def -1 Mag +2 Mag Def +0). Or if someone wants to make a tank maybe they will do (Atk -1 Def +3 Mag -1 Mag def -1.) I think I will add something in the game to allow players to change these around at a cost. Each level a player will be given a Major stat point to use how they please. As far as Minor stats level up I have to do some testing. I think it will be around 3-5 points for each stat per level + the bonus's the player made at the beginning of the game Right now I am going to only make four races that players can choose. Koopa, Toad, Goomba, and Boo. If we actually get this going I will add in more as we go Humans, yoshis, shy guys, bomb ombs. At this point in time I am NOT making different "classes" By using the badges (skills) I am going to give players the freedom to play whatever "class" they choose. There will be racial bonus's I have made no decisions on those at this time buy they will be similar to paper mario race skils. Goomba will have tattle (the ability to see enemies health and stats) Boo will be able to turn invisible for a short amount of time. Skills and ability's are going to be based on the badge system from paper mario. Each player has X number of BP (badge points) which will allow them to equip a number of spells and abilities. This is were the different "classes" will come in. There will be 4 different types of badges genera, melee, range, and magic. Anyone can use a general badge. For the other 3 you must have the corresponding weapon equipped to use the badge. obviously a hammer or sword for melee, a bow or slingshot for range, and a staff or wand for magic. Items are going to be based on mario and D&D. You'll have the basics like mushrooms, fire flowers, POW blocks, as well as swords, hammers, staffs, bow and arrow, armor, shields, ect. Coins will be the main currency. As things stand I think the encounters are going to be a D&D / Final Fantasy tactics hybrid. Like I mentioned before each "level" is going to be one huge encounter. There will be plenty of enemies in the level that will be popping out at the party. Depending on the quest the party is at their may be a boss battle at the end. As far as maps and whatnot go I think I will be using alot of stuff from the pokemon games. It's hard to find "top down" super mario tile sets. If anyone know where to find some good ones please let me know! :) If anyone would be interested in playing please let me know. This probably wont be ready to go in till i'm done school (end of April) If anyone has any feedback or ideas please let me know :) I will note that I am very new to table top games. I think I have played D&D 3 or 4 times. So if anyone knows a better "system" to use for a game like this please let me know. Sorry for the long post, Just had to get the ideas out there :) Cheers
