Is a Transparent Barrier possible?

I am building maps for a campaign I intend to run in the near future. The map is being built using dynamic lighting, with the line of sight and restricted movement options. In one of the maps, a mined tunnel ends in a jail cell. The cell has iron bars. So, vision into the room beyond the cell needs to be unimpeded, but the tokens should not be able to move into the room themselves. Is this possible?
I have made actual bars, if they are close enough together then the PCs can't slip through, but they can still see through the slots. There isn't an option to make an invisible barrier, like a window.
You can put a light source on the other side of the bars, controlled by the player(s). This would make it possible to see into the cell, but not move past the door. The downside is that it makes the cell visible at all times, even when the player(s) is(are) nowhere near it. -Phnord

Just use fog of war to hide the cell! ^_^

No, silly. You use fog of war to hide the cell when you don't want the light showing, IE when the scene is over.

I just draw a dotted line on the map and tell the player's that it's a barrier they can't currently cross. :-)
So restricted movment doesn't allow a player to cross that line? example if I have a 30x30 room done in solid lines the player would not be able to move his/her token outside of that box?

Correct. When using "Restrict Movement" page option, the lines you draw on the Dynamic Light Layer will also be used as "hard" barriers that stop tokens with "has sight" from passing thru.

Just be careful as that use of the DL creates a drain on older computer's resources (memory) if you use it a lot. How much depends on the computer that will be entering and seeing the map.
It seems that only the center couple of bars need to be on the D.L. to stop movement, So you should be able to just put two bars as blocking and leave the rest of the window clear. Cuts down the load on the graphics card somewhat.

I've done it with arrow slits to let light into a castle wall and afford a view outside, however no matter how small a gap i left in the DL players could still move through, is there a specific section of a grid square that needs to be 'blocked' to prevent movement?

I believe that the center of a token is used to determine the token's location. If the center of the token can pass thru an opening, the entire token can pass... Gaseous Form anyone?

That would make sense, my arrow slits were central to a grid square... follow up question for bonus points: Is the centre of a token 1px or defined as something larger?

Wow, extra bonus points for the gif!! Vince 207 - World 0! Vince wins the roll20 restricted movement cup! So a dedicated player could move a token through any gap in the DL (further adding to the need for restricted movement but not sight lines on the DL layer). However, the smaller the gap the less likely they are to accidentally drag a token through a hole... sweet. Thanks for testing, which i really could have just done myself lol! Star.
