Mature Content?

So I saw that Roll20 recently added a "Mature Content" label that you can assign to your games. I took "mature content" to mean anything that contains scenes of graphic violence or potentially disturbing images, but then I thought it might just refer to games that have sexual content. I checked the wiki and it didn't really give a defintiion for what it meant by "mature content." I don't want this to be a gray area as, if I put a mature content label on a game I run, people might get the wrong idea of what sorts of things will happen in the campaign. What do you think the "Mature Content" label means?

I see it as looking for mature roleplayers as opposed to ' lol fire ball, <various cursing, internet cats, it's over 9000, anime/pokemon/thing references' the age threshold is a bonus. Now I have a one-shot group that's all giggles and what-not, but it's a very lax game compared to my campaigns which I spend more time world building and connecting plots/perils/story. I'm sure each GM has their idea of it though. best to clarify.

It means anything that requires a member to be 18 or older to view the material be it graphic descriptions of violence or other content such as sexual content. With roll20 being based in the USA it generally follows along the legal terms of a mature rating and such. If you are wanting an official defination then feel free to email the devs at <a href="mailto:team@roll20.net" rel="nofollow">team@roll20.net</a>
General rule of thumb: If you wonder "would &lt;something&gt; require a mature flag?" then the answer is probably "yes".

Since it's a GM option that's used only for advertising your game pitch on LFG, there is no requirement for adding it on your campaign. It has no legal definition or effect. It's purely there if the GM wants to advertise that the game is meant to be limited to people age 18 and up, for whatever reason the GM might want that. If a campaign has the flag, it still doesn't have to contain violence or sexual situations or anything in particular, though it might, so ask the GM if you want to know. If a campaign doesn't have the flag, it still might contain violence, sex, or other mature situations. Best to ask the GM, case by case.

I generally find that ALL rpg's contain violence at the very least... it's hard to level up when just having cups of tea with all those pesky monsters. But like Gold, and others have stated, the flag is merely there as a extra tool to help GM's narrow the field, essentially a 'those of a nervous disposition/those still in nappies need not apply' kind of thing.

Ziechael, look up Chubbo's Marvellous Wish Granting Engine. An rpg for levelling up while drinking cups of tea...

Haha! Awesome... i never said it was impossible, just hard ;) Still, nice to see its not all hack and slash!
I recall a gent a year ago, recruiting for a game that was Star Trek Orgies, or similar. Another guy running Numenera where session 1 the players were abused by clowns in a prison. The campaign didn't last past that encounter. I put in Mature when it is something like Game of Thrones situations, or very graphic violence descriptions or pictures or when it's touted as "Serious, Mature" RP-heavy group. I have run James Bond here for middle teenage players. D&D, a lot of times that's mostly the age you get. So it's a mix and a preference.
how do you add a mature flag to a game? I never really started a campaing on my own (with some few exceptions, though those where mostly solo player campaigns to test and familiarize with certain game systems, and one that was canceled before it even began) and I am struggling to figure out how to add the 18+ rating to my game as it was voted by the players for it to be tagged 18+

It's part of creating a Looking For Players entry: <a href="https://wiki.roll20.net/Looking_for_Group#Create_L" rel="nofollow">https://wiki.roll20.net/Looking_for_Group#Create_L</a>... Basically, as part of setting up the details of your submission to the Looking For Group tool, there is a checkbox for Mature Content (18+) near the bottom of the configuration.
Personally I find the 18+ flag draws less mature players as opposed to more mature players to be honest.
If you play D&D / PF - they tend to be less mature by standards. Sure, you go to a bar/tavern and maybe hook up... but that usually gets faded to black unless you have a certain non-official book with all those feats and stats. Now, if you play WoD - it's a Horror game. It's also specifically darker than anything else, you'll also notice a good portion of the merits and flaws specifically state they arouse or flirt or mess with in multiple avenues, leading to normal scenes being plain adult in nature. The 18+ Tag simply adds to a GM's options to state... we want Adults, because they are typically more mature and mature things can and do happen in normal gameplay; if the 18+ tag wasn't around, we'd get 13 year olds joining then crying about bad things happening. No one wants that... because that could be a potential lawsuit - the tag acts as a disclaimer.
We need a 60+ marker, indicates players will forget what they were doing, leave turn signal on wagon for 600 miles, more frequent breaks... Would apply to one of my games.
