Block Light, Allow Movement?

1426436643

Edited 1426436652
Quick question: Is there a way for me to block sight of a room but allow movement into it? The idea is that an unlocked door will block line of sight but moving through it will allow sight into the next room. If I use Dynamic Lighting, it blocks sight AND movement. The only solution I've found is to draw a small wall on the Dynamic Lighting layer and then remove it when a player wants to go through a door.

'Restrict Movement' is toggle-able on a per-page basis. Your workaround is the best one if you wish to keep the movement restrictions.
I trace out all solid walls first on the Dynamic Lighting layer, then go back and draw lines in a different color where the doors are. I'm always careful to extend the door line well enough past the walls, to ensure there's no "light leak" going on. It also helps to draw a shape more like a bracket where the doors are, rather than just a simple line. I also never delete the light barrier for the door when the players open it, just drag it off to the side somewhere where they can't see it. That way, if they or someone else closes the door again, you can put the light barrier back in place as well.

Matt's door script can be a big help with this, managing those pesky door lines etc... a little bit of work to set up but well worth it in my opinion.

If you want the Players to be able to get through but not see though, you could create doors like this:

I like to call that the "Kramer" method of walking into a room. :-)

How in the world did you make that doorway? I've never been able to draw lines like that!

Just set your line to 'thin' and maybe have a templates page in your campaign with grouped pre-set door lines that you can copy and paste when needed to avoid having to redraw ;)

That's actually a really simple but effective way of doing doors... *steal*. And frankly I think most of us would be more shocked if you didn't have ideas on interesting things to do with the API.

I'm still waiting for him to create a GM script that runs campaigns for people... *sigh*

You laugh, but I was thinking of implementing Zork via the API Buttons... =D
And instead of dynamic lighting blocking movement you just get eaten by a grue if you move somewhere dark?
Wow lots of feedback thanks guys. Honestly, I think a toggle button to make a door block sight or reveal could use some developing.
