Data saving between character sheets (is switching equivalent to a wipe)?

With roll templates and after some specific issues we've had with the multi-page Pathfinder template not working how we need it to my game is considering switching back to the Pathfinder Legacy template. However, my concern is that if we do this all of the data on our characters will be wiped in the process. Is this true? If we switch back after changing over with the sheet information still be there? I don't want to wipe my players for this level of change, but the stability of roll templates is attractive as powercards have been breaking on us pretty much every other session and we are a very macro heavy campaign.

I have no experience of this directly so don't even know why i'm posting... just chatty i s'pose ;) However, what i do when wanting to do something when i'm not sure of the potential consequences is to use a second campaign as a back-up/holding cell. Use the vault to extract snapshots of your sheets, then do the change and see what happens... then use the vault to bring them back if the world ends =D
The character sheets function by inserting attributes into your character journal. If two different sheets use exactly the same naming convention, then you should be ok. However, that's extremely unlikely as different authors have different personal coding styles.

If the names are indeed different and you have many characters that need to be converted, a script could be created that would move (really copy with new name and delete old) attributes to the names for the new sheet.

Are they breaking because of issues with the script or is it simply the API crashing?
Thanks all, good stuff to think about. @Honeybadger: Its just due to the API crashing, the powercard code is wonderful but we end up having to cancel games multiple times since the new year due to the API system being bugged or down. I personally like powercard functionality a bit better than roll templates (especially as you can customize colors which my players really enjoy) but not being dependant to the API server is something that really appeals to us so we don't lose game sessions due to things beyond our control.
