Interest check - DnD 4E Crack OneShot "Let's Break the Game"

Hello everybody! Name's Matt and I've been on roll20 for some time now and I arrive today to share my new idea with you. Also bear in mind that I'm not native English speaker so sorry for all grammar or spelling mistakes in advance. I think the best introduction to that particular crazy idea (which inspiration was " Into the City Reborn " level 20 Pathfinder one shot) that's been buggering my mind for past few days is to give you nice clear list: Dungeons and Dragons 4th edition which I haven't played once (but I think it's fair to say that I have fair amount of experience from Pathfinder and also played few sessions of 3.5), but I think I know the basics about type of moves and monsters recharge thingy [still if there will be one person, even player, who would want to play and in addition knows 4th edition pretty well it would be nice :)] Also I'm recording my sessions for YouTube channel (only players voice and maybe avatars; I don't require webcams); if you want to play you agree to that. The DM/GM - meaning me - that in majority of scenarios trusts players, because he believe that even if they want to win (and have a good time) they won't cheat to beat whatever challange is upon them. Still in this case I might ask for one or two things to be proven or linked (like total amount of gold spend on items OR result for attribute rolls) Main idea behind this one shot is Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny which will be very combat heavy and in best case scenario ends where either players are super completely dead or my vault of monsters will be empty. I just want to see how much game can be broken and into what crazy numbers we will get :) Basically we wanna have super fun. Speaking of monsters I'm planning to also use homebrewed ones to just see how silly they are and how silly combat with them will be :) For characters themselves: Epic ability rolling - meaning you roll 4d6+4 and have one reroll avaible (either you reroll everything or you reroll one result); the rolling has to happen in roll20 campaign chat and properly described so I may know what stats are for which character. MAX. LEVEL 30 CHARACTERS (#epicplays wub!wub!wub) - if I remember correctly that's max. level in 4th edition; I also would prefer no homebrew classes or powers on players side :) FULL HP AT EVERY LEVEL - I honestly don't know what are HP and damage threshholds in 4th edition, but I guess I'll find out #LOADSOFZENI - 2 000 000 GOLD avaible to buy all the equipment and magical items you need (I'll need a list of items with price tags and total sum to see if you haven't exceeded the limit) If I forgotten about something important post here/ask question and I shall answear them :) For ending I think these two pics should be nice addition, especially the second one: <a href="http://blogs.gamerassembly.net/wp-content/uploads/" rel="nofollow">http://blogs.gamerassembly.net/wp-content/uploads/</a>... <a href="http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p186/EarthScorp" rel="nofollow">http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p186/EarthScorp</a>... Cheers and I'm looking forward for your responses :)

What day/time? I am very familiar with the rules, but think you should play the game at least once or twice to get the hang of it before trying this :) I think point-buy would be better than rolling for stats if you just want to test the game at that level. Don't worry about full hp at every level, it is a set amount in 4E, so no variability for a particular character. Also, if you're doing this just to see, I would suggest standard wealth rules, which would be 2,625,000 gp at L30, with 3 items: one up to L29, one up to L30, another up to L30.
Day? Depends, I'm pretty flexible on that... except Friday - I have my regular session on that day :) Time? Well, my timezone is GMT+1 and I guess if we were to start at 5-6PM we would be able to have solid several hours of playing :) Standard wealth rules? Ah, sure, if they are there they seem pretty reasonable :) And it's not that me per se want's to try 4th edition. I want to give players a playground in which they can have epic combat and as a group have fun, do crazy stuff :) Regarding point buy vs. rolling stats I shall wait for few more voices in that matter :)
There's an entire forum based on 'breaking the game', for 4e. You're just going to see players use those. An entire thread of DPR kings, with no practical use in the game because they're theoretical. Having never played the game at all, you're going to find that your 'epic monsters' are going to get legitimately wrecked, it won't be challenging unless people screw up (Somehow. In 4e.) because you have no actual experience with the game. But in case you don't believe me, the current level 30 King of Damage is an unkillable monster of a PC, who nets themselves 14.6 kills per round. You should absolutely learn the game before doing this. Else you will be incredibly unsatisfied with the results.
@Animus - I believe I won't. For this session I'm a fan of PCs. For this session, aside from types of actions and monster mechanics/attacks I prefer to go with rule of cool/rule of awesome. If player decided to bring in his King of Damage? COOL, I'm all about that. (As long as he's a team player and will leave some kills for other party members :)). Welp, maybe instead of title "Breaking the Game" I should use "The Epic Playground" and/or "Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny"... Anyways, one way or another I'm making LFG. People can answear themselves: a) how many times they had chance to play really high/end level characters? b) how many times they had chance to do that in DnD 4th edition? c) if they wanna use a chance to maybe first time ever play on epic levels and just have pure fun? If players are having fun and are happy then I'm having fun and I'm happy :)

Just a word of warning: 4e is an entirely different beast to 3.5 and Pathfinder. Entirely . It doesn't play like any other version of D&D. The heals flow thick and fast, PCs can absorb absurd amounts of damage (compared to other editions), and properly playing an 'epic combat' session isn't something a newbie GM should be diving into headfirst, if the PCs and GM are to have an enjoyable time. I mean, yeah, it's your game and your time and more power to you, but I think the reality will be far from your theories. Good luck... you'll need it.

While I wouldn't mind this, I'm not sure you know quite enough about 4e to run it smoothly (or more accurately jump into the deep-end of epic tier and go for it while changing basic assumptions on wealth, stats, and health; and then also use home-brewed monsters). For what it's worth I've been playing 4e since before it was out, and at least DMd or played once a month from when it was released. For example the price of items scale a lot quicker in 4e. 2,000,000 might be nearly 3x the WBL of a level 20 character in 3.5 (760,000), in 4e, it's under 1/7th of a level 30 character (14,6250,000). Also, if your intent was to have PCs have more health, well, PCs gain a set amount of health per level based on their class, there isn't anymore hit-die, rolling, or variance. (Though I suppose 4 per level is a d6 rounded up, 5 is a d8 rounded up, 6 is a d10 rounded up, 7 is a d12 rounded up, do with that as you wish.) The insane stats is okay, but fair warning it will probably upset system maths quite noticeably compared to 3.5 or PF where it would be nice but eh at level 20.
I would, in all honesty, not attempt to ever consider 4th the same as 3.5 or Pathfinder. I started DnD in 4th. I'm back-learning simply because 3.5 is harder; better for roleplay due to less hp and more risk to every action taken and more open ended gameplay as a whole. 4th is designed to be played like an MMO. Also, if you visit the official forums, you will find people breaking all the game, all the time. It's a game for math theorists and they excel at it all. Before you do your big recording session, and I'm all for it, consider playing a 4th edition game or two first. Get a grasp of it... it's nothing like 3.5.
