Dice additions and other ideas

I've noticed that it's somewhat annoying for my players to always type out what they want to roll. Sure there are macro's which make things better, but maybe a graphical way to roll dice would be nice. I'm thinking of a graphical set of dice that are on the screen (that you can turn on and off) that you choose, like a d20, d4,d10, and so on. That way only the dice you want/use will show up. Maybe a small text entry box below them for how many and any modifers like +3, -2, and so on could be added. That way they could roll with just a click of a button. Another nice idea would maybe be a spectator mode. So maybe a friend can watch the game but can't participate (with the option to mute/kick out spectators if they get annoying) That way they can watch, maybe learn the game and later join in if they want (with maybe a option allowing to promote from spectator to player in mid-game so maybe after a while they feel comfortable they can jump in.) Also, a way for the GM to "pause" the game. So that way he can use the restroom, or if something happens the players can't move there tokens. I can easily see someone taking advantage of a DM in the restroom. They move their character into flanking and try to say that they where there the entire time and so on. With the game paused, the players can still chat, but they can't interact with the game beyond that. This will also help from players popping in if the DM leaves the players on a active map.
There have been a couple of requests for Virtual dice. I happened to have made one of them. It might be worth trying to locate them in the forums and vote for them.
For something like that, you can create a break room in your campaign and just move the player tag to that room without the tokens. That way they can continue to talk, chat, roll dice if they want, but not touch move the game session. When you return just move the player tag back to the map you were on.
For pausing the game, I place the game on an empty map, with an evocative illustration as background instead of a map, and play some music.
And if you are playing with folks who would take advantage like that, you may want to find a new group.
And if you are playing with folks who would take advantage like that, you may want to find a new group. This has been our general policy on the "cheating" issue. I'm the primary DM for our group and if people start pulling that I start to happen to roll crits often on that player :D

However it can be difficult for some people to find gamers that can game at the same time with the same ruleset, etc. I understand there are people who have thousands of friends and can game any time and play any rpg but that doesn't necessarily apply to everybody. Obviously you can't make every change that every person asks for but there should be a better response than "Sucks to be you, I have GOOD friends."
Sorry, that was not the intended take-away from that but we are still at the point where that level of user permission control is not on the near term road map. The previous suggestion of moving the Players flag to an intro/holding page when the DM isn't around is the thing to do.
Oh, nothing has happened. It is just something I could see happening. I haven't run my first game yet, well thats only one hour from now but still. It was just a thought.

Maybe, but you can not expect to have a system specifically geared to help some GM settle their relational problems. It is using the wrong answer for the problem. If the problem was with the system, the solution could be found in the system. But if the problem is with his relations, maybe he should try to settle his relations. A "technical" solution won't settle this kind of problems. It shall only make cheaters look for another opportunity, somewhere else. You have only two solutions with cheaters: convince them not to cheat or boot them out.
