Noob searching for a helpful group

Hey :) I'm kinda new to D&D and roll20 in general. I watched some videos and livestreams by a youtuber (Cryaotic) playing a 3.5 campaign, so I know at least a bit about that. But I want to start playing and am searching for someone to play with, who can occasionally help me out. Another thing I want to mention is that I'm not exactly fluent in english because I'm Austrian. I can speak and understand most things perfectly, but sometimes I have to think about things a bit longer. So please consider that. I'm open on weekdays but MON & TUE at about 5-12 pm GMT and all the time on the weekend.

I find that people from Austria on roll20 generally turn out to be very good players. Welcome to the roll20 Community. With some patience, you'll find a game, certainly.

Well, I don't even know what game type One Ring is so it's okay. But thank you anyway :) And I just wanted to say to looking DMs, that I have a pdf version of the rulebook and other stuff, so don't worry, I'm going to read up on all rules.

Yeah one Ring is Lord of the Rings RPG by a company called Cubicle 7. It is a Long term Narrative style game, where the players get experience and skills only from describing their actions, not from combat. There is combat but killing things doesn't earn experience, roleplaying does. It has replaced D&D for me. Ja. RPG von einer Firma namens Cubicle 7. Aww~ the extra german part is extremley cute and nice of you :) But did you use Google Tranlator or another Translator? Because those mess some words up and thats kinda hilarious. And that's really interesting. Maybe I'll check that style out sometimes :)

Yes, I took 3 years of German at University, but that was 20 years ago. I was studying International Studies Russian, and the same professor taught German. I have forgotten most of it, So yes, google Translate. I confess my sin.

Your german is still pretty good. Don't worry. German is a hard language to learn, so I don't think it's THAT bad :) And thanks for the tip. I'm going to edit it right now.

My Grandfather's name was Schmitt, he came to the US from Stuttgart, before World War 2, and ended up fighting In Asia. So when I had the chance, I studied some German. ;) It's sort of Tourist "Can I find the Train Station?" "Here is my passport." "How much does it cost?" level. these days. I have forgotten most of it.

Well, 20 years is a long time after all. And without refreshing your knowledge, it's pretty much a given that you forget that much. And what a coincidence! I've lived in Stuttgart before I moved to Austria :)

Pretty much our goal is to get 4 players, preferably new players, then to post on the forums or something to get a DM. We are happy to have you on the noobtrain to D&Dville

Don't worry man I understand, but promise me we can play a bit together some day. Also, can you just tell me some sections of the Players handbook to read? Like the important stuff that I will absolutely need to play a game

IIt's a promise! Might be some months, but stay in touch. 3.5? If you are a fighter, nost of what you need is combat. if you are a spellcaster you need to read up on your spells. Understand the minor action and action stuff, and initiative. understand how to caculate a DC roll. Know what your weapons do with regard to damage. If you have ranges weapons, figure out your minuses to hit at range. XP, treasure, all of that the DM handles. You should read about your race, and abilities from race. class abilities. The skills your pc has, so that you have a rough idea of what Dvs you need.. The toughest part is rolling a character. there are online generators that mostly do the job, google around to find them. I have not run 3.5 in over 5 years, I replaced it by Star Wars SAGA, and One Ring so that's off the top of my head.

ok thanks. I have read the 4e player handbook, Is the minor action and initiative the same as 4e? What is Dv? What do you mean by rolling a character? Are you talking about ability scores? I have a dice set so I'll be fine in that category.

DC is the roll you need to make. Like this skill is DC of 14 need to roll 14 or better on d20. Rolling a character is the rolling and generation of it and recording all the stats and numbers. Creating a character to play = rolling the character = generating a character.. all the same.

oh ok. I downloaded an app for that so I'm all good. I guess we jsut need to get a DM so that I know if he wants us to use point buy for abilities or roll and what not.

Yeah, there is a lot more players than DM's on roll20. It's gonna be kinda difficult to find a DM thats available :P

Zack, Michael and I are looking for a DM or a 4th player so we can make a post together to search for a DM. We're all fairly new so we wanted to have a noob friendly group and we found each other and formed a search group (As you can see in the post) Michael and I are in the EU so we have GMT and Zack is ET. Our prefered game type is 3.5 The time is still debateable. Hope that helps :)

I currently have two skype games with EU players from England to be more specific so I know the strains that can cause, however I am looking to play as I said in my original post, so if you are looking for a player that is fine, what time are you looking to play? I am pacific standard time, but whatever time you guys want to start is fine as long as its not to early my time.

Well, we haven't decided on the specifics. But Zack and I are students, so the weekend would be prefered. I'm free at 12 midday until however long I want to stay up. I personally live in Austria, so I'm GMT+1 Are you on tomorrow? Because then all 3 of us will most likely be on again. Michael is most likely offline already.
