Looking for Gods

Hi. I am considering using a rule set from an old game called Warp World (Blacksburg Tactical) to simulate a pantheon of Gods and their manipulation of the world. I will teach you how the game works...it's pretty simple, but incredibly sandbox as well.

These gods will hold sway in my Pathfinder/D&D world and their dealings will effect the mortal realms...to a point. In essence this is a "War in Heaven" in which those with power try to keep it and those without try to get it...but those roles haven't been clearly delineated yet so EVERYONE is trying to get it.

If you are interested, in a general sense, in the concept, please reply here or to me privately. It will be a laid back "game", and I will expect a turn from each player by Saturday night at Midnight. I will start parsing through all of the actions and report what happens in the world/planes by Monday night. We might play a few rounds just to get the feel for how it works then reset things.

You will need to create your own god, and I can give you a template for the "stats" portion, but things like sphere of control, type of worshipers, etc are up to you...have fun with it.

Interested?
I'd love to try this out
I would absolutely love to try this out! I have quite a bit of experience roleplaying and gming but this sounds really unique. Message me if you want me to participate.
Very interested!

This sounds fascinating, count me in!

I'm not familiar with Warp World but I'm sure you can fill us in. I have a couple well-liked homebrew deities that might be fun to bring to other settings. I'd be happy to hear/share more details.

This is also a very interesting setting, and I'm guessing die rolls will be a bit rare, with more maneuvering than acting. I'd love to try but I can't do weekends or mondays. Friday is good for now.

I woke up this morning hoping for a couple of responses. I am ecstatic at the response!

I have a long day at work and then I will start contacting everyone. This is not closed, so others can feel free to respond.

I plan to set up Mentor status next month on pay day, and in the mean time I will set up a "room" for us and start explaining the concepts. The rules are rather obscure and out of print. I am attempting to contact author to request permission to scan the 2-3 pages we will need. If he says no, I have a bit of typing to do...but we could be rocking and rolling here in a few days/week. I will also give you campaign background to help understand the world.

Excited!
This sounds very interesting, although I don't know Warp World, I am pretty good at pathfinder and 3.5 D&D. I would be interested in coming up with some kind of serpent god, like the god of the Yuan Ti, if that is possible. I have always loved the Yuan Ti. If there are no evil deities allowed then I have some other ideas for a neutral race of half man / half spiders ( more upright than a drider ) of my own creation that would worship a spider deity, kind of like Lolth but neutral. Anyways, it sounds like it could be a lot of fun, definitely would like more info.

seems it could be interesting.. toyed about with a couple sandbox/godgame things in the past. Not sure what sort of thing I'd go for, kind of depends on how the pantheons are settling in, and what sort of world it is.

Daniel... my homebrew deity of choice is a sworn enemy to snakes xD
i would love to join ^_^

Cool.
I might be really into this but a quick question to Don H.,

What will player to player interaction look like?
Will it be a type of diplomatic game, with factions and large numbers of players?
Or ... something else entirely?

I'm intrigued - but having a hard time visualising how this all will work.
The prospect of being the god of wine, women and song appeals though.

I'm Totally down for this!
Hi there, don't know much about warp world, getting back into D&D and the new Pathfinder system

Would like to join this - so far ideas are the deity for lost causes/pyrric victories/last chances

Hello Everyone. I am working on some basics right now. I haven't replied to anyone individually yet because I want to have a "packet" ready to give when we start, and I don't want to be premature. I am leaning toward starting this early next month because after payday I will be supporting the site as a mentor and that will give us benefits in game.

In the mean time I want you to think about your god. Who are they? What makes them tick. Humans are the dominant species in the world, but you can be god for any species, even monsters, should you like. I will be using a mixture different rules sets for your characters. I have received permission from Greg Porter at BTRC (thanks Greg) to scan and distribute pages from Warp World, and I will do that soon so you can all have a copy of "how being a god" works. I also plan to use a variant of the Amber diceless rules to create your characters.

As such, your characters will have 4 main statistics. Spirit, Power, Endurance, and Domain. The first 3 stats describe your individual "strength" and effectiveness. No, you can't kill each other. You can't act against each other directly, although there will be ways you can aid and screw your fellow gods - but none of you can die from this...probably.

The 4th, Domain, describes your sphere(s) of control. Are you the god of Death? Or Magic? Or both?

STEP ONE: THINK ABOUT IT.
Dream up the best character you can imagine. How do you want that wonderful new person to look? In your dream of dreams, what kind of person would you really like to be? Use your imagination first, and then take a look at the character sheets and start figuring out how to make that person come to life. Ask yourself what most interests you. Combat? Mystical Arts? Power Politics? Exploration? Or some combination? Remember, this is an immortal character. One you'll want to play for years and years.
STEP TWO: BID FOR ATTRIBUTES
There are four Attributes that define every character; Spirit, Power, Endurance and Domain. You will bid for your character in the Attribute Auction using some of your one hundred (100) points. Pay attention to the other players, and remember who your rivals are going to be. Save enough points for the rest of the character creation process.
STEP THREE: BALANCE THE POINTS
See how many points you have left out of your original 100. If you come up short you can chat with the Game Master about getting more points for reducing your Attributes.
STEP FOUR: TAKE THE FREEBIES
Work up your character’s looks, background, skills and personality. So much for the simple version. Let's start with the Attribute Ranking and Attribute Auction Rules.

We will determine these 4 statistics by holding an auction for them (rules to follow). I will speak with each of you individually and ensure you understand how it will work before we begin.

The key to growth as a god is influence in the mortal realms. Here is a short list of things to think about your character so you will be ready to rock and roll when the time comes.

I am also thinking of starting a Facebook group to make it easier to contact everyone here. That way we can hold an auction in a group "message" or something like that until we get it complete. I will let you know the address when established.

I am very excited about this, as are you all. I am afraid it will suck, so please be kind and help me make it a fun competition until we work out the details together. I have done something like this before, but not with 20 people, so I am a little daunted, but like I said, excited to proceed.

Looking forward to your Godhood,

Don

Each campaign has its own private forum, visible only to those in the campaign. That would be vastly preferrible to Facebook.

I have the feeling that, as we get into it, the budding pantheon will sort itself to an extend (or, at least set up a few Heresies and Jihads.)

and adding my support to keeping it to campaign forum, at least to start.

I would like to get in on this, if there's still room
March 24 (9 years ago)
I didn't realize that about the Forum here. I would prefer it too. I will look into it, and pardon my roll20 rookie mistake :)

March 24 (9 years ago)
Ok I checked into the campaign forums. We can try them, and I don't think it will be a problem. I cannot post pictures or files there, so that's a negative for me. If you want the original pics and files you will find those links in the Forum. Game link is here:

Ok I believe I have sent a PM invite to all who have inquired. If I missed you it was an oversight, not intentional. Please post here and I will get your in the game!
March 24 (9 years ago)
This game is still accepting new players. It always will unless it gets out of hand. Those of you who get in before the Auction starts will have a decided advantage over newer gods, so make sure you check the forums at least daily for now and get ready. Read the rules. Know the rules. It's like 3 pages, so seriously...know them well please. Thanks!
hi, i was also interested, send u a pm a few days back :)
March 24 (9 years ago)
Invite sent. It's been awhile since I have invited someone to a game and I was told by a player just now that the link isn't open to him...remind a man how to invite interested players :)
March 24 (9 years ago)
It looks like I need your email addresses to invite, correct?
March 24 (9 years ago)
Aha moment! Try this link it should get you in, sorry for the logistics: https://app.roll20.net/join/744490/m5LRjQ

Does anyone not know how to find the Campaign Forums? We are actively posting information in there that you will want. Things should move quickly - within the next week or so. Make sure you are up to speed or you will be left behind.
