Need help getting started with Pathfinder!

Hi there, as the title suggests I'm pretty damn green when it comes to Pathfinder - in fact, I'm pretty green when it comes to anything outside 2nd Edition. Basically, it's been a while since I was at the gaming table and some things have begun to look like Greek to me. I was really hoping to get into roll20 and have most of the books on Pathfinder but every time I try to roll up a character I end up with one or more elements that I'm unsure how to calculate. What I really need is someone to sit down and help me get to grips with creating a character, after that I should be able to puzzle out any future character gens. I would appreciate any help anyone can give me and, as I know that person would be giving of their free time to help me out, in return I offer my eternal love and devotion... in the form of a paper hat... that I can take a picture of and email to you... lol. Anyway, many thanks in advance ppl.
I just started pathfinder recently, but I think I might be able to help you out. Do you have skype or something similar?
I have been running 3.5 and then pathfinder for almost 7 years in total, I have all of the released books for pathfinder. I think I can give you a hand if you are interested.
Hey, I better get cracking on those paper hats. Thanks for getting back to me so fast guys. I do have skype. I'm just new to it, in fact. You add me as "SunderPrime". Any chance you could tell me what time zones you're in? It'll make it easier to schedule with one of you. Also, any overall tips you'd be willing to give me, as far 3.5, Pathfinder or roll20 are concerned, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again to both of you.
I will be holding you to those hats. I'll add you via skype as well and I am (UTC-03:30) Newfoundland time.
In case it does not work out well with them what is your time zone? mine is EST, eastern standard time. I am also writing up a topic post for recruiting into my pathfinder game if you think you might be interested.
Hey Chris, I am currently running a Pathfinder game. I have played and ran D&D for over 30 years and recently started with Pathfinder. I run a game twice a week during the morning, if you wish to join in and play (or observe) your more then welcome. -David, I am on CST, when are you planning on running?
Hey guys, I really appreciate all the responses. I'm currently on BST (GMT+1) but I don't mind trying getting up early or staying up late to learn this stuff. Michael: I've had some trouble finding the difference between our two time zones, near as I can tell though, your time zone is either an hour behind mine or 4 hours behind mine, which isn't too bad. So if you want to set aside some time and let me know when you're free for a character gen lesson that'd be awesome. David: Yeah, I'd really appreciate taking a look at that post when you're finished. Please do send me a link. Many thanks for the offer too. And Hector: I would definitely be interested in observing if you'd be happy enough for me to do that! What time at? It's a little daunting for me to see the changes from 2e, but I guess I need to get with the times. I'd also love to check out either of your games Hector and David, though I admit I'd be worried about slowing down game-play until I have a better grasp of things. So the offer of observing does solve a lot of problems for me. Anyway, thanks again guys. I can't say how much I appreciate people with so much experience offering to give me a hand.
Four and a half hours behind you.(my province has a half hour time zone) I'm generally up pretty late except on Sundays and even then till midnight my time. As for the time, I'm not picky if you see me on at Skype at anytime just drop me a line and if I'm able to we can work it out from there. What are sometimes that would be fine for you? I wouldn't worry about slowing down a game Chris, usually it's pretty simple to just pick it up and learn what you need as you go. I haven't been a player for a very very long time(thank my friends inability to dm haha) but that is an observation I made from watching players start for the first time without ANY prior experience so I'm sure you will do fine.
Trust me when I say I doubt you will slow things down due to being new. My honest opinion is that games seem to actually stay on track and move faster WITH new people then with a group of all old timers. The biggest thing that slows down a game is sidetracked minds, and considering how many people play Role Playing Games with ADD or just act like they have ADD... Hector, I really will be running mostly based on my players. During the weekday is preferred for me at the moment, or late at night. But in the ed, I will mostly adapt based on the players.
I can attest to Pathfinder's ease of use. I just picked it up for David's game myself, and it's fairly intuitive. David is also great at explaining the rules, so you've got plenty of ability to learn it :) I can send you PDFs of the core rulebook set if you like. If I'm incorrect on that PDF sending being legal, someone let me know. I think that's allowed by the license, but if it isn't http://www.d20pfsrd.com is a great Pathfinder resource which has all the info nicely categorized, and it is definitely legal under PF's license. EDIT: I was in fact incorrect. I can not send you core rule books. I can generally assist, though, and I still recommend that site up there.
It's okay. I have the core books and a few of the others; love the artwork and layout. My main problem is how long I've been away from gaming. Even after 3e came out I kept playing 2e with my friends and have only recently picked up Pathfinder. There are some things about character gen I still don't get, values I can't figure out how to create, and I need to get back into the gaming groove anyhow since it's been so long. Plus, it IS a conversion, even if only in part, so it feels a little daunting. I'm updating AND moving over!
I am currently on skype if you wish for help with characters
Sorry for the long delays in writing here, been a bit busy. Chris if interested I will be running my game tomorrow (Friday) at approximately 11:30 CST. David, have you managed to start your game ??
Yeah, I just got your message. Very interested in watching if you're still happy with that. Are you still running the game today? And, if so, can I get a link for it?
Hector i am sorry for not sending you a PM about it before, it slipped my mind. I am filled and running within 2 weeks, BUT I still need backup players just in case someone falls out for any reason. http://community.roll20.net/discussion/2134/lfg-pathfinder-jade-regent-campaign-est-reserves-needed-main-slots-filled
I normally go to school at night, here in central america. I run a game during the week from noon to about 4PM CST. It is easy for me to play during those times. I will be out visiting the states next week and out of the net for a bit, but I will check here to see how you guys are doing. maybe I can finangle a night game with you guys.
