Looking for overworld map style buildings and symbols

Hey I'm looking for overworld map style buildings and symbols. You know, buildings and stuff to represent cities, forests, mines ect like you would see on a real map instead of a game grid map.

Russ's packs.... the Minecraft of the market... you just keep wanting to place one more block.
Its certainly the most expensive item I've ever purchased on here. But at 218 items, not actualy a bad price.

Not a bad price.... and it gets worse, They are like Lay's potato chips hard to eat just one.

Actually, a tad more Ken, but on the bright side, I try to include a lotta stuff - and you can use many pieces from various sets to combine in bigger pieces. Just did one for Alan H. recently...need to beg him to let me show it on here, or he can if he'd like. And Stephen S is right...OWS is like Lay's potato chips; it's my mapping crack. Love to make this style and working on a tenth set now...just can't stop making 'em. One idea leads to another then to five more then to several dozen...and they told two friends, and so on... (...though, since you can download them, you could print them out and then eat the print outs... as many times as you want! STILL more satisfying!! =D )
Yea well in general I'm commenting on lego packs vs preset encounter maps. Pre made maps are great for quick encounters, but once it's used with a group it typically can't be used again without some groaning ('hey.. I remember this road'). With lego packs you can mix and match themes as well as add your own.

Yeah, I definitely agree with you. I run into premade maps are never quite right. too small, water is the wrong size, doesn't have quite the right feel for the scene. Build-to-suit packs are much much better.

Build-to-suit packs available on the marketplace are pretty darn good for dungeons right now, but where I feel there is something lacking it is with outdoors. It is a bit of a challenge customizing a scene that is largely outdoor that transitions to an indoor setting. Not enough consistency in pack and artwork styles. Edit: Just to clarify, the overland map building resources are great with Old World Style... what I meant was more from a battle map making perspective. Not enough geomorphic outdoor tiles with the ability to add things like roads/trees/etc...

From an API using mentor's perspective I think three things would make outdoor battle maps amazing. 1) One-way dynamic lighting 2) foreground layer 3) Image tags access Trees with only the inside of the trunks blocking Dynamic Lighting. 50% transparent leaves overhead. Access to tags to keep it all straight when you ever you place, move or destroy a tree through API.

Ok, Stephen - you got your craters. Now go forth and share with the other kids. As for pandas and bamboo...well, ya jest cant trust them pandas...I will try on a bamboo forest though. Hmmmm.....must channel bambooo...bamboooo... Aside from bamboo and craters, which you now have, anything else? I presently have two sets in the making: one at more of the world view level and one at the regional zoom level. So any suggestions would be great! Thanks man! Ken, Aaron & Kevin - I totally understand about wanting a quick battle map, and admit, OWS is not really a quick encounter oriented. I've always thought of these as a world view, then the somewhat zoomed in level for regional maps; very much a story telling or "chronicle" type of mapping. Now, you can print and eat the maps if you reallllllly want to. If Aaron can make paleo-squirrel chili, I am sure he has a recipe for paper-map-gumbo he could share. hahaha And Ken - Lego pack. Love it! I've not heard that term before describing sets (I live a very sheltered life...don't judge...they dont let me out much). hahaha Awesome!

Hey guys, clarify for me, 'cause I really would like to make more things that can be used for battle oriented mapping. Kevin, you mentioned being able to add like streets and trees and such. Do you mean like this?: This would an example using elements from sets 2, 8, 3, and of course, populated with some Paul Ooshun's Dungeon Buddies goblins. This one was created while testing Set 8 with other sets. The cobblestone (and yeah, I faded the edges to create more of a hint of cobblestone roads. I didn't create total lengths because I thought it might make things a bit heavy visually - the faded edges with strong centers still allow for the idea of cobbles) is from set 2. Most of the scene is from Set 8 Lost Worlds; although the river is using pieces from set 3 cracks and contours. Is that what you are talking about? Feel free to grab the graphic and draw on it to put it back up. I'd be happy to try and create something more suited for battle oriented maps. :D Thanks for the feedback gang! Hoodalolly!
@Russ H. - Your work is really awesome for displaying a scene or a zoomed out view of things. I mean more from a battle map perspective, being able to start with some basic outdoor geomorphs, then being able to add a structure with some additional trees/foliage, maybe a road or a path and having it blend together in a cohesive top down battle map. A lot of Gabriel P.'s work for towns and villages is fantastic, but I would love to just get all the piece and parts to put together the scenes I have in my head, instead of having to fit the scenes around existing maps (if that makes sense). All of this can be done in things like gimp, but I am simply not talented enough to make things a beautiful and cohesive as the professionals here.

I'm having trouble fitting the pieces together. :/ I'm trying to make a map with a mountainy area running along the top, but I can't seem to get the mountains to snap together nicely. Also the tags for the polar mountains, don't include mountains.

I believe Russ has mentioned before that his sets are designed for layering. You'll probably want to drag them so they over lap a bit by holding the alt key.
Well this is what I ended up with. I had to use the alien jungle in place of a bramble area. And I didn't know what layering meant. Sorry. I'm not very good at this it seems. :(
