new player looking for group that can teach the ropes

I'm as new as you can get here, I have never played a DnD game but have had an interest in it for years and for a few weeks I have been looking aroud here to try and find a group that can teach me, so far no luck as you can see. And some might wonder, what edition are you interested in? I have no ide, I have been unable to buy any of the books or find something that I can read on the net without paying for first. As for time I'm fine with more or less anything and I'm willing to try any class but wizard, rouge and archer sounds more of my cup of tea.

You can download the Basic rules for D&D for free: http://dnd.wizards.com/articles/features/basicrules There are many other games that have free System Reference Documents (SRD) like 13th Age, and Pathfinder. There are many other games that have free quick start rules like Call of Cthulhu, and GURPS. the question isn't just what edition, but what game, and especially what time zone are you in? If you're in the USA, chances are a game run by someone in Australia like me isn't for you because the game runs at a time inconvenient to you.
