I want to create some campaigns in Roll20, but as I've begun building I've realized that creating custom maps, while entertaining and immersive, is very time consuming, and can be expensive. Not only will this slow down the rate at which I can run games, but I suspect it is unlikely I will be able to foresee every map I will need for a given campaign, and I may need to come up with something spontaneously during a given gaming session. Therefore, I'm thinking that in these circumstances it will be best to use a simple battlemat with only a few props, and I'm wondering how other GMs do this. Do you just use a blank screen and drop/draw some props or tokens on the screen with a solid color background, or are there "blank" battlemat themes available on the marketplace, etc.? From your experience what works best?
