Newbie-ish looking for mentor

Hi, I'm not exactly a newbie - I've been gaming most of my life - but I've only just become interested in D&D. I dabbled a bit in HS...but I won't tell you how long ago that was. I live in a pretty rural area and it's tough to find a group so I thought I'd try this. I need someone willing to help me through a quick basic game/scenario. I'll test out my tech and read/watch all the tutorials I can in the next week - before joining a real game - but would really like it if someone would take me under their wing, so to speak. I completely appreciate any and all help - Bex
Heya Bex, Unfortunately I probably don't have time to run a full scenario/dungeon with you, but if you're interested in D&D 4th Edition I'd be happy help you with character creation and maybe a quick trial fight if you're interested and you have a mic. Otherwise, if you have any specific questions about the game and such I'd be happy to help as well. Shoot me a private message if you'd like and we can chat on Skype or here. Best regards, Drake
I'd be able to help ya out in 5E sometime! It's the easiest (and one of the most popular) versions out now, and there's a free basic guide online that you can look at: http://media.wizards.com/downloads/dnd/dndbasicrules.pdf When do ya have time?
Thanks to you both (and everyone else that's offered to help) - I sent you messages. I had the chance to spend a couple hours today on Skype with a really helpful player that walked me through 5e char dev. A quick scenario would be great - I'm playing around with char dev some more...umm....I'm not sure what else I don't know so I don't know what else to ask. Being familiar with other editions would expand game choices, yes? Availability for me is all CST - Monday, Tuesday and Thursday after 9 pm. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays I can schedule block out an afternoon if it's consistent. Sunday afternoon/nights are a possibility but not the best.
I'm also looking for another regular game myself and am looking for more late one shots or campaigns
