Restrict token Movement Distance

It would be nice to be able to as a GM restrict the distance a token can move when the grid is enabled. Example if I have the grid (square or hex) enabled I can assign a "Movement Allowed" value to a character that restricts it, if a player try's to move it further it will snap to the farthest location allowed or even better stop at the edge like it does with dynamic lighting turned on. A lot of war games and even RPG's use different speed scores for characters or vehicles and sometimes it is hard to see were the token started from this would help a lot. A bonus would be the ability to see a silhouette or some sort of evidence of were a token started before the move was taken.

In the interim, the restriction could probably be handled via the API. You can select a token and hit the space bar to see the path it last moved on, as well as a transparent copy of the token in it's original position.
Thank you for the response. I am not skilled at coding and having to rely on the API. I always feel like the answer "use the API/the API can do it" is unsatifactory, because it is really saying "No, but if you want to design your own tool.
That's the purpose of the API. To let people do things that are a niche feature.

As HB points out, the API is great for filling a need that isn't a current feature. As HB has also experienced, features that are created in the API and become popular can get turned into fully supported features of Roll20 for everyone. I never intend the answer of "you can do that in the API" as an alternative to a suggest, but as a way of alleviating any problems you might have with your current game.
The Aaron, I tried selecting a token and hitting the spacebar and no such luck for seeing the last location or the line it traveled. Are there map requirements for this feature?

I tried it on all Square, Hex, and no grid and it worked fine. To get more than just a straight line path, you have to grab a token and while holding it, press the space bar to start measuring, then press space for each waypoint you want to drop. Square Grid: Hex Grid: No Grid: Straight line drag:
Cool, thanks
Would it be possible to display the distance of a movement in progress instead of afterwards? I don't care about a distance line being drawn, but I would like to see a numerical output of the distance traveled next to the graphic that is moving.

The distance is displayed in real time if you are showing the line.
