[Any] New player looking for GM/Game Group to help me through my first adventure. (MST Text only Asynchronous Preferred)

Hello, I'm Joe and I'm hoping to find a GM mentor to guide me through my first play-through of a tabletop adventure. I'm open to suggestions on system though I'm particularly interesting in DnD or Star Wars themes. Though I've never played a tabletop RPG before, I've read about as much as I can (DnD player's handbook included) and even tried creating my first character in preparation, which was a colossal failure. While I don't have large swaths of time to devote to any single session, I can easily check in several times a day, so asynchronous/play-by-post is highly preferred. I really just need an experience player to show me how to actually play a game. Thanks for your consideration, I look forward to cutting my teeth on an awesome adventure soon! FYI, here's my initial post which might provide some more background.
If play-by-post is what you're interested in, you might get better results on a site like rpol.net or myth-weavers.com, communities dedicated to such games. As people mentioned on your other post, PbP *exists* here, but as a minority: the site is built around and for realtime play. I'm not trying to discourage you, just trying to help ensure you can find a game that works for you. One thing you should mention for DnD especially is edition: 3.5e and 5e are the most common these days (along with the variant Pathfinder), but you can find free rules and games for older editions as well. I'd personally strongly suggest 5e, since the system is greatly streamlined and easier to start with (and especially to build a character!) than 3.5/Pathfinder. The basic rules PDF for 5e is available online for free at Wizards website directly. I don't currently have the time to devote to it and asynchronous doesn't really appeal to me personally, but hopefully you can find a game or someone to help you out. If you're just looking for a "how to play" tutorial rather than a "real" adventure, that's something that could probably fit within a 1 hour realtime session, especially if using voice.
