Mic almost inaudible

I have a bit of trouble when I get in games. My mic is hardly audible. Now I've adjusted my sound settings, adjusted settings in Roll20, skype etc. I just can't be heard. Im using a basic Nexxtech desktop mic, I don't know if there's something Im overlooking when I change my settings or not. I'm looking at headsets that I can get for under $60 that work with Roll20 and skype, but right now if I can fix my mic in the meantime that would be great.

Hi Adam. Are you using headphones or speakers? Try it with headphones for listening. If you are using speakers it could be sound-canceling to reduce feedback. Feel free to reply, ask again and keep this going if that doesn't resolve it, there are additional steps for troubleshooting. Are you using the Roll20 built-in voice system ? Or skype? Skype troubleshooting that would be through skype help (outside the scope of roll20).

Can you please try taking the steps in our Audio Visual Trouble Shooting guide.
I use speakers. When I plug in headphones to either the speakers or the tower, they are much too loud with and I am unable to adjust their volume from the volume nob. I use both, for some games they want to use skype, and for others Roll20's built in system is used.

It's a tricky balance using Microphone and Speakers together. It is easier to combine mic with headphones. If the sound from the speakers bleeds back into the mic, normally this would cause feedback, but modern voice programs have noise-canceling and feedback protection (this applies to WebRTC the built-in voice, also happens to apply on Skype). They will auto-level your mic down, in order to prevent feedback loop. Try to get your microphone away from the speakers, and speakers not pointing towards mic, also turn your speaker volume down. See if that helps. If you've been turning your mic volume up-up-up trying to get louder... perhaps try turning your Speakers Down, and turn your Mic sensitivity Down also. Reduce the amount of sound from speakers that is being picked-up on the mic. Alternately, work on troubleshooting why your headphone volume is too loud. Plug in your headphones again, and use your Computer volume settings to turn-down the headphone volume (since you said the volume knob isn't working to turn down headphones).
