BEHIND THE DM SCREEN TALK Topic: DM Ruling Tools "Tricks of the Trade" , length: 7:19 twitch.tv broadcast transcript https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/1851258/150418-b... Actual broadcast https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIaFCkaTZ9g THOUGHTS FROM THE DMs DESK I'm so proud of the group for not backing down, but standing tall in the face of overwhelming odds, and successfully pulling off what many would have called an impossible, suicide situation. With their careful planning (found in the prior DM Session Log post), precision execution of that plan, and great die rolls, they managed to pull together every available remaining resource, fight like hell and ultimately destroy the massive onslaught of sahuagin forces! Well done! The amount of tokens on screen took the word chaos to a whole new level! Watch the twitch stream for some raw battle mayhem to see what I mean! Again, I applaud you all for being brave, and not cutting and running like most would have done. You deserve every point of XP and the recognition that goes along with all of these accomplishments! QUICK READ RECAP Continuing the night assault battle of the sahuagin forces, the party quickly groups and faces the threat head on, in a battle of near epic proportions, destroying the monsters, resting to regain much needed hit points and spells, embarking the following morning to begin a fast and furious reconnaissance mission discovering that another massive group of sahuagin stand at the ready, beyond the lowest level submerged portcullis, protected by patrolling shark minions, the party attempts to execute a coordinated attack on two fronts simultaneously, with another assault group above ground making quick preparations back at the main stone entry way (see initial assault log details) in an attempt to draw the sahuagin out by causing a diversion, and hopefully make the underwater team's task easier, all this while time is running out for the magic enabled party members breathing underwater! This weeks discussion should begin with what the next activities will be for the above ground strike force and what they plan to do with respect to that main entry way doors made of stone, as well as the underwater recon team, and the outside mechanism for possibly raising the portcullis with that massive force of sahuagin and sharks that are just inside. Here is a youtube link with that last discussion to kick things off... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3MVWl8x1d0
Is there any way to seal in the shahugin into that one small room and just leave them there. Either that or just fireball the frack out of them. Either one works for me and will probably work for you as well. So it looks like you mission for the council is straight into the old pooper eh lol oh well at least now you all will have a much deserved if brutal reputation. If you want a tribe of anything wiped off the face of this small planet just send in "your squads name here"
When you say 'small room', if you're referring to the last picture above, underwater with the sharks and such, that big gong is all they can see but beyond that, according to Oceanus, is a massive grotto filled with sahuagin and their own sharks, etc.

yea, that and, fireball does not work underwater :/ really tho, the biggest factor we need to keep in mind is time. at the very least, an hour of our fighters ability to breathe has passed. we should not be wasting time with messages, we should be hitting that front door in the hopes of emptying the grotto so our group can get in, get info, and get out.
What is that fireball doesn't work underwater? What kind of land are you guys playing in? No disrespect intended to the big chesse here, but a flash boiled bunch of water will not only piss them off and do irrepairable damage to their lungs all that steam has to go somewhere. If anything i would think that a fireball under water would do more damage like maybe a d 8 or a d 10 per caster level, especailly in an enclosed space. Just saying lol What kind of info are you going to be looking for once you slay all the shauguin?

as sad as it is, check out the complete wiz handbook, Ch6 casting in unusual conditions. there is a whole list there. Fireball, Melf's Minute Meteors, and a few others do not function underwater; and other spell effects change when cast underwater, for example, lightning bolt becomes an aoe, etc. the info we are to gather is numbers, supplies, etc.
Ah I see so the numbers will be zero and whatever supplies you do not take... LOL

i hope not. we dont want to decimate them (well i dont) and possibly have a larger, more ruthless force go at Salt Marsh. the above water group with me is not there to destroy, but to distract, while the others get in and out as quick and encounterless as possible. thats what we were asked to do, and let Salt Marsh take it from there.
Ok 1st a fireball can't work underwater.....put a light underwater and strike it, if it lights up then you can make lots of money, but no it won't work. The frontal assault is the only way to draw the attention to allow us to enter, and our one fighter with us which has 4 hours left to breathe. So this is a time issue, which we'll have to pull off one way or the other. And if that don't work then i'm working on a backup plan of that 10' opening in the front halfway down, use strength and the strength of both killer whales to pull the huge stone that me and my whales pushed in place to block the 10' opening up and go in through there. Oceanus 1st so he can make sure traps are not there, that would be another way we might be able to get in, we didn't even check it out just blocked it off.
And because the Sahuagin know that we blocked it off, then maybe they wouldn't think about us actually going in through that 10' opening under the front gate halfway down.
But that is to late for whats about to happen, that will be the backup plan of getting in. Man really wish we had a mage / staff / wand of Lighting Bolt right about now lol.
ha ha ha yea, that would cure the no fireball for sure by taking its place as our AOE

That opening, now blocked with a boulder, is on the north side of the lowest submerged level, beneath the stone causeway, and opposite the southern portcullis (examined this session where Oceanus indicated that he saw an even larger force of sahuagin with sharks, see last photo above).

So what's the plan and general consensus for today's game? Bash in the front door and hope the submerged folks can get in through the south portcullis, or move the boulder and examine the northern submerged entrance?
If everyone agrees then we should try the 10 foot opening under the causeway might prove better option of getting in, instead of the hopes that the frontal attack might draw out the 30 something sahuagin with 3-4 sharks. The surface party can still do the destraction, or we can keep with the original plan, i only bring up the 10' entrance in front now because i forgot all about it.
im game for either, im sure we can distract them.
