"Interactive" Map?

Hello all! I come to you with a question. I plan to run Rise of The Runelords, and I'm in the beginning stages of prep work. For all those familiar with the AP, Sandpoint has a lot of locations for the PC's to explore! I'm going to have the map of Sandpoint found in the AP book (including the numbers over the buildings. Can be substituted for the non-marked image) as a large page image so the PC's can see all the streets in lovely detail. The question I have - is there a way to make the map "interactive" for the players? By this I mean is there a way, be it through API, or creative thinking, that I can make icons clickable for the players in order to have a handout appear with each respective buildings details? I was planning on having a handout made up with "nested" handouts that would have each locations details fleshed out in either case. I just think it would be neat to have the map itself be interactive in that manner for the players, if it is even possible. I hope I'm being clear in what I'm asking about. I have a hard time explaining myself thoroughly sometimes. Cheers!

Yes. With API.... a lot.... Tokens with token actions would also work.... spam the chat.

The API can't pop up a handout, but it can whisper a link to it, set permissions on it, etc. It can also dump the contents to the chat. Another option people have used is putting a very small image that the players have control of (lock it in place with the API's MapLock). Players can thing click it and hit Z on their keyboard to view the full sized image of whatever it is. You just make images that have all the text and pictures you want on them and the players see them and click and zoom. I suggest you give them a recognizable border.

Wouldn't even have to spam too much. You could set the tokens up with actions like "[Handout Link]" or even "/w ?{enter your name} [Handout Link]". You'll probably also want to use the TokenLock script to make sure the PoI tokens don't get moved around once they're placed. Edit: This post sounded a lot smarter when Aaron wasn't saying the same thing right above it...
These are very useful options. I've already played around with the small image and MapLock API and they work perfectly for my needs. Many thanks for the advice. You have made this little DM very happy! :D

A script like this could also be used.... <a href="https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/1931730/script-t" rel="nofollow">https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/1931730/script-t</a>... This triggers an action based on tokens entering areas defined by paths on the GM layer.
