Hello there ladies and gents! My name is Joseph (Known as Oblivinati to others) and I'm currently taking a class in Game Design and as a final it's required for students to create a board game of their choosing with stand alone mechanics or mechanics taken (but not completely made of) from other games. With Roll20 being a valid option as a system of use, I've decided to create this board game for you and hopefully many others to enjoy down the road. Without further or do, let me introduce this game: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ At last, your race has been able to break the chains that bind you to your home world and seek for riches and comfort amongst the stars! With every step your race takes, you uncover more and more ways to harness the logistics of the universe. From close cosmic threats to distant disasters you conquer it all every step of the way. The more you explore the final frontier, the more you seek to establish a legacy! But you’re not alone. Others have taken the heed of a higher calling in the vast cosmic wonderland. The seemingly borderless expanse of space has just become a lot smaller than you originally thought. Though your new found competition might have the same common interest, some might not take up the same cup in a quest for higher power. It’s up to you to expand your borders, profit from prosperous relations with neighbors, or take up the sword of the galaxy and fight! Sword of the Galaxy is a Frankenstein of sci-fi, turn based strategies taken influence from top games of the genre. From the strategic and structural mechanics of Twilight Imperium to the military logistics of Axis and Allies, Sword of the Galaxy is what I hope to be a more role play centric and board game adaptation to games like Sins of a Solar Empire or Endless Universe. The game is currently in ALPHA. This game was made and created by myself for both a Game Design class final and for fan projects on Roll20! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The game will be turn based and strategy based! However, I've included mechanics for both ends of the spectrum when it comes to role playing and non role playing game play. This game includes preset races and factions BUT there's a huge section for creating your own with different characteristics and traits that help fit you into the galaxy. Seeing how most turn based tactical strategy games have combat being the biggest factor here, this isn't the case for this game. This game has other options for victory much like how civilizations does so if you have a race of technologically evolved dinosaurs and you want to achieve having the most advanced technology in the galaxy, then go for it! The combat in the game is based roughly around how Axis and Allies works with a huge strategic twist. Just like Axis and Allies and Twilight Imperium, this game can last anywhere from 2 hours to 4 hours in one sitting but the limit is set on the players themselves! For the game, we will be using skype to play this and plan on going for a role playing game play of this so in this case, you'll be the leader or commander of your race and or faction! The portions of the rule book will be posted on the game's forum and reference sheets will be made for the days we do play games so no one is left in the dust. I plan on setting up games for Saturday nights starting game set up at 5:30 and hopefully starting the game by 6pm PST. As stated above, depending on what the group votes for, the game will last anywhere from 2 hours to 4 hours so grab some snacks and take a seat!
