Colons break API buttons?

It seems if I try to use apis that involve colons, they just break it? Even with html formatting?
I can't speak from direct API experience, but colon's in Javascript are part of the Object Literal syntax, or as shorthand IF /THEN statements, I believe. I expect it would matter how you're using it. An example piece of code would be helpful. Side Note: API questions are usually better addressed in the API forum :)
Ah sorry. Mmm okay nevermind then, it was the fact I was trying to use it alongside Tokenmod stuff. His API involve functions such as "!token-mod --set statusmarkers|dead:-1" in which the : just disables the button itself. I have found work arounds as such, but it was just odd thats all. Wasn't sure if it was a bug or not. Thanks :)

(Moved to API) I'll have to look into that. What was your workaround?
